Overview
We are looking for a technically strong and hands-on UAV / Drone Systems Integration Engineer to join our R&D; team and contribute to the development, integration, validation and field deployment of advanced unmanned aerial systems. The role spans the complete UAV development cycle—from system-level understanding and component selection to hardware/software integration, flight testing, troubleshooting and performance validation.
The ideal candidate should be equally comfortable in the laboratory, at the workbench and on the flight-testing field. The position covers multirotor and VTOL platforms, autopilot systems, propulsion, navigation, communication, payload integration and emerging UAV technologies. The engineer will also participate in customer demonstrations and defence-sector trials, where disciplined testing, technical judgement, documentation and professional conduct are essential.
Responsibilities
- Own UAV integration activities across multirotor, heavy-lift and VTOL platforms, from subsystem integration through ground validation and flight trials.
- Translate mission and system requirements into practical selections of flight controllers, propulsion, ESCs, batteries, navigation sensors, communication links and payload interfaces.
- Integrate and configure PX4 and ArduPilot systems, including sensor calibration, flight modes, failsafes, mission configuration and flight-parameter tuning.
- Use Mission Planner and QGroundControl for configuration, mission planning, telemetry monitoring, parameter management and post-flight analysis.
- Perform electrical, mechanical and software-level integration of motors, ESCs, power systems, GNSS/GPS, telemetry, RC systems, cameras, payloads and auxiliary sensors.
- Support VTOL development, including actuator/servo integration, hover and forward-flight configuration, transition testing, stabilization and troubleshooting.
- Conduct structured ground and flight tests; identify root causes of instability, navigation errors, communication issues, vibration, power-system problems and other system-level failures.
- Analyze autopilot flight logs and test data to support engineering decisions and performance improvement.
- Evaluate and integrate technologies such as RTK/GNSS, optical flow, VPS/VIO, advanced telemetry, autonomous navigation and computer-vision payloads.
- Participate in prototype development, engineering validation, field demonstrations and defence-sector trials, including preparation,
on-site integration and post-trial reporting.
- Maintain integration procedures, wiring/interface documentation, configuration records, test plans, flight-test reports, issue logs and lessons learned.
- Work with embedded, electronics, mechanical and software teams to resolve cross-disciplinary integration issues.
- Research emerging UAV technologies, evaluate feasibility and support proof-of-concept development.
- Travel to customer locations, test ranges and field sites when required.
Technical Skills Required
- Strong system-level understanding of UAV architecture covering flight-control, propulsion, power, navigation, communication and payload subsystems.
- Hands-on experience with multirotor platforms; understanding of heavy-lift UAV integration is desirable.
- Working knowledge of VTOL architectures and hover, transition and forward-flight integration.
- Hands-on experience with PX4 and/or ArduPilot, including parameter configuration, calibration, flight modes, failsafes and basic tuning.
- Proficiency with Mission Planner and/or QGroundControl.
- Good understanding of motor–propeller matching, ESC selection, battery sizing, power budgeting, thrust-to-weight, endurance and payload trade-offs.
- Understanding of GNSS/GPS, telemetry, RC links and UAV communication interfaces.
- Practical knowledge of UART, I2C, SPI, CAN and PWM.
- Ability to read basic schematics/wiring diagrams and diagnose electrical and integration problems.
- Ability to conduct systematic flight tests, analyze logs and convert observations into engineering actions.
- Working understanding of UAV safety, pre-flight procedures, risk assessment, test discipline and configuration control.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with VTOL / QuadPlane / tailsitter or other hybrid UAV architectures.
- Experience with custom flight controllers, STM32-based electronics or embedded UAV systems.
- Exposure to RTK GNSS, dual-GNSS, optical flow, VPS, VIO or GPS-denied navigation.
- Understanding of autonomous navigation, waypoint missions, geofencing, failsafe strategies and mission execution.
- Exposure to computer vision, AI/ML,
companion computers or perception systems.
- Experience integrating cameras, gimbals, telemetry modules, digital video links or mission payloads.
- Basic C/C++ and/or Python for UAV automation, data analysis or hardware interfacing.
- Experience with SITL/HITL or other UAV simulation and validation methods.
- Exposure to RF/communication systems, long-range telemetry or advanced RC systems.
- Strong analytical approach to debugging, root-cause analysis and engineering problem solving.
- Ability to independently research, test and integrate unfamiliar UAV technologies.
Defence / Field Trials & Professional Requirements
- Willingness to participate in defence-sector demonstrations, customer evaluations, trials and field deployments.
- Ability to work under field conditions and coordinate professionally with customers, test teams and technical stakeholders.
- Strong discipline in pre-flight checks, configuration management, safety procedures and trial documentation.
- Ability to communicate technical findings, test results, limitations and recommendations clearly to engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel as required for UAV trials, integration activities and customer demonstrations.
Experience
- 1–2 years of relevant hands-on experience in UAV/drone development, integration, testing or R&D.;
- Practical UAV experience is required; the role is not intended for candidates with only theoretical knowledge or drone-piloting experience.
- Experience across both hardware and software aspects of UAV integration will be highly valued.
- Engineering backgrounds in Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Aerospace, Aeronautical, Embedded Systems or related disciplines are preferred.
- Candidates with robust project/research experience in UAV systems are encouraged to apply.
- Compensation: ₹45,000–₹55,000 per month, commensurate with technical depth, hands-on capability and relevant experience.
What We Value We value engineers who can move beyond individual components and understand the UAV as an integrated system. The ideal candidate should be curious, analytical, technically rigorous and comfortable taking ownership of a problem from initial investigation through integration, testing and field validation.
Pay: ₹45,000.00 - ₹55,000.00 per month
