Scope of Role

As a Technical Publications Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality technical publications, including owner manuals, service and repair procedures, workshop manuals, illustrated parts catalogues, and dealer documentation.

The role involves evaluating vehicle maintainability, defining repair methods, conducting labour time studies, and creating accurate technical documentation to ensure efficient service and repair activities. Collaborates closely with Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, and After-Sales teams to improve serviceability, optimize repair processes, and deliver high-quality service information in line with OEM standards and program timelines.

Area of Responsibility:

Conduct virtual and physical serviceability assessments to evaluate accessibility, removal, installation, and maintenance feasibility of vehicle components and systems.

Perform virtual assessments using Process Simulation tools to optimize service operations during product development.

Develop Standard Repair Operations (SROs) and calculate labor times using time study methodologies.

Analyze and improve repair methods to reduce service time and enhance workshop efficiency.

Develop and validate Workshop Manuals, including service, maintenance, removal, and installation procedures.

Support service readiness activities by validating repair procedures before vehicle launch.

Collaborate with Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, and After-Sales teams to address serviceability concerns.

Prepare serviceability and labor time reports to support technical publications, dealer operations, and warranty processes.

Identify repair-related design issues and recommend improvements to enhance vehicle maintainability.

Ensure all service documentation meets quality, accuracy, and OEM standards.

Generate serviceability assessment reports and communicate findings to cross-functional stakeholders





Understanding of technical documentation standards and practices such as Simplified Technical English, Style Guides etc.

Experience in creating technical content and illustrations for automotive documentation, including Owners Manuals, Operation & Maintenance Manuals, Service Manual, Illustrated Parts Catalogues (IPC), and Emergency Response Guides (ERG).

Valuable understanding of automobiles parts, systems and assemblies and its working.

Good understanding of DITA-XML & CMS systems or similar tools and industrial standards

Must have hands on experience in authoring tools like MS-Office, InDesign, Framemaker, Arbortext editor (SGML/xml based), Cortona 3D etc.

Experience on illustration and editing tools like Isodraw, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, 3D via composer, coral draw, Photoshop etc.
