At Wattr.ai , we are building technology for one of India's most important and complex challenges — water .

We are creating the digital intelligence layer for real-world water infrastructure, connecting sensors, field systems, data, software and AI to help organisations monitor, understand and manage water infrastructure at scale.

And we are looking for a Technical Lead who wants to own the technology behind it.

This is not a role where you simply receive requirements and write tickets.

You will work across the entire product-engineering chain:

Business Requirement → Product Requirement → System Architecture → Technical Design → Engineering Sprints → Task Allocation → Development → Testing → Deployment → Production → Scale

? You will lead the engineering team that executes it.

? You will own technical delivery against product goals, KPIs and deadlines.

? What you will own

You will be the technical bridge between the Product team and Engineering team , translating what the business needs into systems that can actually be built, deployed and scaled.

You will

→ Understand business and product requirements and convert them into technical solutions

→ Design the overall system architecture — application, APIs, databases, data pipelines, cloud infrastructure and integrations

→ Break architecture and product requirements into engineering modules, technical tasks and deliverables

→ Plan and drive engineering sprints based on product priorities, dependencies and deadlines

→ Assign work across developers based on technical complexity, priorities and individual strengths

→ Track sprint execution and ensure engineering commitments translate into actual product delivery

→ Identify technical risks, dependencies and bottlenecks early and drive them to resolution

→ Remain hands-on with development, particularly on critical or complex components

→ Review architecture, code and implementation decisions to maintain engineering quality

→ Work closely with Product to balance speed, scalability, reliability and business priorities

→ Own technical delivery from 0→1 and beyond , taking products from an idea to a field-tested production system

?️ Technology you will work across

This is a broad technical ownership role. You should be comfortable going deep across multiple layers of the stack:

Frontend → Backend → APIs → Data → Real-time Systems → IoT → Cloud → Infrastructure → AI

? Full-stack Engineering

Strong hands-on experience with:

• Node.js and modern backend development

• React and frontend application development

- REST APIs and service integrations
- Databases and data modelling
- Authentication, authorization and application security
- Performance optimisation and production debugging

☁️ Cloud & Infrastructure

Strong experience with AWS and production cloud systems.

You should understand and ideally have hands-on experience with:

- EC2, S3, RDS / time-series databases and relevant AWS services
- AWS IoT Core or equivalent IoT cloud platforms
- Docker and containerised applications
- Kubernetes / EKS or equivalent
- CI/CD pipelines
- Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform
- Monitoring, logging and observability

networking and reliability The expectation is not simply to consume cloud infrastructure — you should understand how to design, provision and evolve the infrastructure on which the product runs.

? IoT, Real-time & Data Systems

Wattr works with real-world infrastructure and continuously generated data.

Experience with any of the following is highly valuable:

- IoT platforms and connected devices
- MQTT / pub-sub architectures
- Sensor telemetry and real-time data ingestion
- Event-driven systems
- Kafka or similar streaming technologies
- Data ingestion / ETL pipelines
- Time-series data
- High-volume event processing
- Real-time alerts, monitoring and reporting
- Edge/cloud architectures

You should be comfortable thinking about:

Device → Data → Backend → Processing → Intelligence → Dashboard → Action

? AI & AI-assisted Engineering

AI is becoming an important part of how we build intelligent infrastructure.

Experience with

- LLMs / GenAI
- AI APIs and integrations
- RAG / agentic systems
- ML/AI pipelines
- AI-assisted development using tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude or equivalent is a strong advantage.

We are particularly interested in engineers who use AI tools practically to increase engineering velocity and solve problems better , rather than simply having theoretical exposure.

? Architecture & System Design

Architecture ownership is mandatory for this role.

We are looking for someone with at least 2–3 years of genuine hands-on architecture / system-design experience .

You should have experience with:

- Designing production systems from business requirements
- Defining system and service boundaries
- Making technology and architecture decisions
- Designing APIs and integrations
- Database and data architecture
- Distributed and event-driven systems
- Scalability and performance
- Reliability and fault tolerance
- Security and observability
- Cloud architecture and infrastructure
- Evolving architecture as products scale

Importantly, you should have built the systems you architected .

We are not looking for a pure enterprise architect or consulting architect who primarily produces diagrams and documents.

? Technical Leadership

You will lead the engineering team technically and drive execution.

This includes

→ Translating product requirements into technical plans

→ Breaking large requirements into manageable engineering tasks

→ Planning sprints and sequencing technical dependencies

→ Assigning work to engineers

→ Reviewing progress against sprint commitments

→ Unblocking developers when technical issues arise

→ Conducting code and architecture reviews

→ Mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards

→ Working with Product to manage technical trade-offs and delivery priorities

→ Ensuring engineering execution remains aligned with business KPIs and product deadlines

You may lead a small team of engineers, but your primary identity should remain that of a strong hands-on engineer and technical leader.

? 0→1 Ownership

We want someone who has experienced the journey:

Idea → Architecture → First Build → MVP → Production → Scale

You should have personally contributed to taking at least one product, platform or major system from 0→1 and subsequently helped scale or productionise it.





Startup experience is a strong advantage, particularly experience working in environments where engineers have to make decisions independently and move quickly.

? What success looks like In your first 6–12 months, you should be able to:

→ Bring live sensor/device data into reliable production systems

→ Build scalable backend and frontend systems

→ Identify architectural bottlenecks before they become production problems

→ Help build an engineering culture focused on ownership, quality and delivery

✅ What we're looking for

- 7–10 years of software engineering experience preferred
- 6+ years can be considered for an exceptional candidate
- 2–3+ years of hands-on architecture / system-design ownership is mandatory
- Strong hands-on full-stack engineering experience

• Robust Node.js + React experience

- Strong AWS / cloud experience
- Experience setting up and evolving infrastructure
- Strong understanding of APIs, databases and distributed systems
- Experience with data pipelines / high-volume or real-time systems
- 0→1 product or platform development experience
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers
- Strong sprint planning, task breakdown and engineering execution skills
- IoT / MQTT / telemetry / real-time systems experience is a strong advantage
- AI / GenAI and AI-assisted development experience is a strong advantage
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to operate independently
