Position: Technical Assistant to Managing Director – Mechanical Engineering
Industry: Water & Wastewater Treatment / EPC
Department: MD Office / Technical & Projects
Reporting To: Managing Director (MD)
Qualification: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
Experience: 5-8 years preferred; exceptional freshers may be considered
Location: New Delhi

Job Purpose The Technical Assistant to the Managing Director will provide technical, project, operational, and coordination support directly to the MD across the company's water and wastewater treatment business.
The role requires a Mechanical Engineer who can understand technical matters, track projects and critical activities, coordinate with internal departments, consultants, vendors and clients, and provide the MD with accurate and timely technical updates for decision-making.
The candidate will act as a link between the MD's office and Engineering, Projects, Procurement, Production, Site, Operations, and Maintenance teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Support to MD
- Assist the MD in reviewing technical matters related to water and wastewater treatment projects.
- Study project drawings, BOQs, specifications, equipment datasheets, quotations, technical offers, and reports.
- Prepare concise technical summaries and presentations for the MD.
- Highlight critical technical issues, delays, risks, cost implications, and required management decisions.
- Assist the MD in evaluating technical proposals from vendors, consultants, contractors, and project teams.
- Conduct technical research on new equipment, technologies, products, and treatment solutions.
- Maintain a systematic record of important technical decisions and action points.
2. Project Monitoring & Coordination
- Monitor the progress of ongoing WTP, STP, ETP, RO and other water-treatment projects.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Site Engineers, Design Engineers, Procurement, and other departments to obtain project updates.
- Track project milestones, equipment deliveries, installation, erection, testing, commissioning, and handover.
- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly project status reports for the MD.
- Identify delays and bottlenecks and bring them to the MD's attention with relevant facts and possible solutions.
- Follow up on action items assigned by the MD and ensure timely closure.
- Maintain a project-wise action tracker and management dashboard.
3. Engineering & Mechanical Responsibilities
- Review mechanical aspects of water-treatment projects under the direction of senior management.
- Understand and review:
- Pumps and pumping systems
- Piping systems
- Valves and fittings
- Pressure vessels
- Filters
- Agitators and mixers
- Blowers and compressors
- Dosing systems
- Clarifiers and sludge-handling systems
- RO/UF equipment
- Mechanical equipment and packages
- Read and understand P&IDs;, GA drawings, equipment layouts, datasheets, BOQs, and mechanical specifications.
- Assist in identifying technical discrepancies between drawings, specifications, offers, and actual site conditions.
- Coordinate with engineering teams for technical clarifications and modifications.
4. Vendor & Procurement Coordination
- Assist the MD in reviewing major equipment and vendor proposals.
- Coordinate with vendors for technical offers, drawings, datasheets, inspection reports, delivery schedules, and pending documents.
- Assist in preparing technical comparison statements for equipment and machinery.
- Track critical procurement items and highlight delays.
- Coordinate with procurement and technical teams to ensure timely ordering and delivery of project-critical equipment.
- Participate in vendor meetings when required and prepare meeting notes/action points.
5. Site & Project Visits
- Visit project sites with the MD or independently when required.
- Monitor mechanical installation, erection, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Interact with site teams, contractors, consultants, and clients on technical matters.
- Verify reported site issues and provide factual updates to the MD.
- Prepare site visit reports with photographs, observations, pending actions, and recommendations.
- Follow up on site-related issues until closure.
6. Management Reporting & MIS
Prepare and maintain management reports covering:
- Project progress
- Engineering status
- Procurement status
- Equipment delivery
- Site execution
- Commissioning status
- Major technical issues
- Client/consultant issues
- Pending approvals
- Vendor performance
- Project risks and delays
- Action items assigned by MD
The candidate should be capable of converting detailed technical information into short, clear management-level updates.
7. Coordination with Departments
Act as a coordination point between the MD and:
- Design & Engineering
- Project Execution
- Procurement
- Production/Fabrication
- Site Operations
- Commissioning
- Maintenance
- Quality
- Commercial/Contracts
- Sales/Business Development
Ensure that important instructions from the MD are communicated to the relevant teams and followed through to completion.
8. New Technology & Business Support
- Research emerging technologies in water and wastewater treatment.
- Study recent mechanical equipment and treatment solutions available in the market.
- Assist the MD in evaluating potential technology partners and suppliers.
- Support preparation of technical presentations for clients and business meetings.
- Assist in technical due diligence for new projects and opportunities.
- Collect and analyze market/competitor technical information when required.
Required Technical Knowledge The candidate should have a good understanding of:
- Water Treatment Plants (WTP)
- Sewage Treatment Plants (STP)
- Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP)
- Reverse Osmosis (RO)
- Ultrafiltration (UF)
- MEE/ZLD systems – basic understanding preferred
- Pumping systems
- Mechanical equipment
- Piping and valves
- Equipment selection and specifications
- Mechanical erection and commissioning
- Preventive maintenance
- P&IDs; and GA drawings
- BOQ/BOM and technical specifications
Required Skills
- Strong Mechanical Engineering fundamentals
- Excellent MS Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Good knowledge of MS Word and documentation
- Ability to read engineering drawings and P&IDs;
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong follow-up and coordination ability
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to prepare professional management reports
- Ability to work with senior management and cross-functional teams
- Willingness to travel to project sites

- Timely and accurate reporting to the MD.

- Accuracy of project status information.
- Identification and escalation of project risks and delays.
- Effective coordination between departments.
- Timely follow-up with vendors and project teams.
- Quality of technical analysis and documentation.
- Timely completion of assigned technical projects.
- Reduction in delays through proactive coordination.
- Quality and usefulness of information provided to the MD for decision-making.
Authority & Role Positioning The Technical Assistant will not replace functional/project heads but will support the MD by ensuring that important technical and project information reaches the MD accurately and that decisions/action points are followed through.
The position requires a combination of Mechanical Engineering knowledge project understanding management reporting strong coordination and follow-up skills.
Preferred Candidate Profile
Education: B.E./B.Tech – Mechanical Engineering
Experience: 2–5 years in Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, EPC, Mechanical Projects, or related engineering industry.
Candidates with experience in WTP/STP/ETP/RO projects, mechanical equipment, EPC execution, project coordination, or management reporting will be preferred.
Reporting: Directly to Managing Director
Salary: As per candidate's experience and company policy.
Location: New Delhi
Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
