Senior Capacity Planning & Performance Engineer - z/TPF

Primary Customer Responsibility The primary responsibility of this role is to provide senior-level technical support to a major Travelport customer. The role serves as a trusted engineering resource across z/TPF performance, capacity management, forecasting, analysis and reporting, with responsibility for turning operational data into clear technical insight that supports customer decisions and service stability.

Role Overview

This role sits within the Capacity Planning and Performance function and combines deep z/TPF technical expertise with data analysis, forecasting, performance management and customer engagement. It is responsible for understanding system behavior, identifying material changes or anomalies, assessing their capacity and performance implications, and supporting informed decisions about current and future resource requirements.

The role also supports a broader portfolio of z/TPF initiatives. It requires the judgment to connect operational data, system behavior, application or workload changes and airline business drivers so that analysis remains technically sound and commercially relevant.

Core Areas of Responsibility Customer & Stakeholder Support

- Serve as a senior technical resource for the primary customer, with emphasis on capacity, performance and forecasting matters affecting z/TPF environments.
- Provide clear, evidence-based interpretation of system behavior and communicate material findings, risks, trends and recommendations to appropriate stakeholders.
- Participate in recurring customer discussions and contribute technical context to projects, initiatives and changes that may influence system usage, performance or future capacity requirements.
- Support recurring and on-demand customer reporting and analytical needs with accurate, consistent and professionally presented information.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the customer environment, operating patterns and business drivers so technical findings can be interpreted in an operationally meaningful way.

z/TPF Systems & Operations
- Provide senior engineering oversight and technical analysis of z/TPF environments, including production behavior, system data, operational conditions and the effects of workload or configuration changes.
- Use z/TPF online access, system commands and production data to understand current operating conditions and support technical analysis.
- Interpret z/TPF system logs and related operational information to distinguish expected variation from meaningful issues or anomalies.
- Keep current with z/TPF operating-system enhancements and platform changes that may affect performance, operations or capacity.

Performance Management
- Evaluate application and operating-system efficiency, resource consumption and changes in system behavior.
- Analyze performance indicators such as CPU/MIPS consumption, memory, cache,



DASD I/O and other relevant measures.
- Identify meaningful trends, anomalies, risks and opportunities for performance improvement or resource optimization.
- Assess the effect of workload, software, configuration, scheduling and usage changes on system behavior.

Capacity Management
- Maintain an integrated view of resource utilization, system health and available capacity across relevant z/TPF environments and associated platforms for production and native test systems.
- Assess capacity headroom, projected growth and resource requirements to support proactive management of capacity-related risk.
- Identify capacity, configuration or allocation considerations that may require attention as demand changes.
- Support analysis of both normal growth and unexpected demand conditions that could affect service continuity.

Forecast Modeling & Capacity Planning
- Develop and maintain forward-looking capacity views using historical trends, current consumption, customer projections, business activity, software changes and other relevant resource drivers.
- Support monthly forecasting and long-term capacity outlooks using appropriate mainframe forecasting methodologies and engineering judgment.
- Adjust forecasts as new information becomes available, including project activity, cutovers, workload shifts and expected efficiency gains.
- Produce clear charts, analyses and management-ready reporting that communicate current position, expected growth and potential actions.

Data Analysis, Reporting & Technical Judgment
- Collect, validate and organize recurring performance and utilization information used for trend analysis, reporting and forecasting.
- Analyze historical and current data to identify changes in system behavior, usage patterns, consumption trends and emerging conditions.
- Prepare recurring performance and forecast reporting for customer and internal stakeholder use.
- Provide post-cutover or post-change performance feedback where applicable, using observed system behavior to validate assumptions and improve future analysis.
- Exercise independent senior-engineering judgment in determining the significance of findings, the level of investigation required and the appropriate audience for communication.

Customer Service Context The Capacity Planning and Performance function provides an integrated service across Performance Management, Capacity Management and Capacity Planning (Forecasting). This role contributes across all three areas,



helping ensure that operational data becomes actionable insight and that capacity decisions are supported by reliable evidence. The role contributes to proactive identification of capacity risks, optimization opportunities and right-sizing decisions, while helping reduce the likelihood of capacity-related incidents and supporting effective management of resource costs as business demand changes.

Required Skills &

Experience Skill / Experience Expected Level / Application z/TPF Systems Engineering Senior engineering-level experience with z/TPF systems and solid working knowledge of TPF operating-system behavior, online access and production diagnostics. z/TPF Operations Senior-level understanding of operational management, system health, production data interpretation, configuration considerations and operational impacts of workload or system changes. z/TPF Programming & Technical Training Formal z/TPF systems programming training and senior engineering experience sufficient to interpret system behavior, logs, commands and technical changes. Forecast Modeling Senior engineering experience with mainframe capacity forecasting methodologies, trend analysis, resource modeling and forward-looking capacity assessment. Performance Management Strong experience analyzing system and application performance, resource consumption, anomalies, trends and opportunities for efficiency improvement. Capacity Management Senior-level experience evaluating capacity headroom, projected growth, resource requirements and configuration or allocation considerations across mainframe environments. Excel & Data Analysis Proficiency with Excel, including formulas, macros and structured data analysis used for recurring reporting, modeling and forecasting. Customer Communication Ability to explain technical findings clearly to customer-facing stakeholders and translate engineering analysis into business-relevant implications and recommendations. Airline / Workload Awareness Understanding of airline operating behaviors, workload patterns and business influences that can materially affect system demand and capacity usage. Continuous Technical Awareness Ability to keep current with z/TPF operating-system enhancements and platform changes that may influence system performance, operations or capacity.
