Island School is seeking dependable, adaptable, and student-centered Substitute Teachers to provide instruction and supervision for students when regular classroom teachers and teaching assistants are absent. Substitute

Teachers play an important role in maintaining a positive, safe, and productive learning environment and supporting the continuity of student learning.

The Substitute

Teacher position is an non-exempt, on-call position.

Salary ranges are based on needs for coverage - substitute teachers for PreK/Elementary Teaching Assistants up to $175 per day and regular classroom teachers up to $190 per day.

Island School is a WASC/HAIS accredited PK-12 independent day school with a total enrollment of 450+

Island Schoolʻs Substitute Teachers provides instruction to and supervision of students in accordance with the

Assignment.

Responsibilities Include,



But Are Not Necessarily Limited To

- Following lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher or developing appropriate lessons in

accordance with Island School’s curriculum design.
- Providing engaging and effective instruction using appropriate teaching methods and strategies.
- Applying effective classroom management techniques to maintain a positive, orderly, and respectful

learning environment.
- Be able to distinguish confidential/private information from general information and maintain the

confidentiality of student, family, and school information.
- Supervising students during classroom activities, transitions, recess, lunch periods, and other school

activities.
- Ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of students at all times.
- Supporting students academically, socially, and behaviorally in accordance with school expectations and

policies.
- Communicating appropriately and professionally with students, parents/guardians, faculty, and staff.

Candidates Should Have

- A college degree and/or relevant experience in teaching, education, or the field being taught.
- Previous experience working with children and young people is strongly preferred.
- Candidates should be able to provide references from previous employer(s) verifying reliability and

satisfactory performance over a multi-year period,
