Job Title: Sr Crash Finite Element (FE) Modelling Engineer – Automotive This -level role focuses on developing, integrating, and validating high-quality crash FE models for automotive applications using ANSA. The position involves full-vehicle and subsystem modelling, ensuring models are robust, accurate, and compliant with OEM and customer guidelines for crash analysis.

Responsibilities

- Develop and integrate high-quality crash FE models for automotive applications using ANSA, covering both subsystem and full-vehicle configurations.
- Model a wide range of vehicle subsystems, including body-in-white (BIW), chassis, closures, bumpers, steering systems, drive units, fascia, HVAC components, wheels, and related assemblies.
- Perform comprehensive CAD cleanup to prepare geometry for meshing and subsequent crash modelling activities.
- Generate high-quality meshes and conduct mesh-quality checks to ensure model accuracy and stability in crash simulations.
- Perform penetration and intersection checks to identify and resolve geometric conflicts within the FE model.
- Validate FE models in accordance with OEM and customer-specific guidelines and standards.
- Create, implement, and validate crash connections, including seam welds, bolts, and rigid connections, to accurately represent structural load paths.
- Assign materials based on bill of materials (BOM) data and customer inputs to ensure correct material representation in crash models.
- Prepare and integrate crash FE models and decks, ensuring they are fully run-ready for solver execution.
- Conduct detailed model checks and debugging to identify, analyze, and resolve model and deck errors prior to crash simulation runs.
- Follow customer modelling guidelines, numbering conventions, checklists, and documentation standards to maintain consistency and traceability across models.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify modelling requirements and support crash analysis workflows.





Essential Skills

- Strong, hands-on expertise in crash FE modelling for automotive applications.
- Proficiency in ANSA for FE model creation, integration, and validation.
- Demonstrated experience in modelling automotive subsystems and full-vehicle structures, including BIW, chassis, closures, bumpers, steering, drive units, fascia, HVAC, and wheels.
- Advanced skills in CAD cleanup, meshing, and mesh-quality assessment.
- Ability to perform penetration and intersection checks and resolve associated issues in FE models.
- Experience creating and validating crash connections, including seam welds, bolts, and rigid connections.
- Capability to assign and manage material properties based on BOM and customer specifications.
- Strong skills in preparing run-ready crash FE decks and performing thorough model checks and debugging.
- Ability to interpret and apply OEM and customer modelling guidelines, numbering conventions, and checklists.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills in a simulation and modelling environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with crash solvers or equivalent tools is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with automotive crash analysis workflows and best practices.
- Ability to produce transparent, structured documentation for models and modelling procedures.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with engineering and analysis teams.
- Organized and methodical approach to handling complex models and multiple subsystems.





Work Environment The role is based in a professional engineering environment focused on automotive crash simulation and finite element modelling. You will work extensively with ANSA and related crash analysis tools, following established OEM and customer guidelines, numbering conventions, and checklists. The position involves close collaboration with other engineers and analysts, with an emphasis on accuracy, consistency, and thorough documentation in a structured workflow.
