Position Summary

As a Software Engineer – C++ / Qt / Linux, you will be responsible for designing, developing, integrating, and maintaining software components for Capla’s surgical navigation and OR integration systems.

You will work on C++ and Qt-based applications running on Linux / Embedded Linux platforms, supporting user interfaces, system control, imaging, tracking, video, device communication, and other safety-critical medical device functions.

This role requires not only strong software engineering capability, but also experience developing software within a regulated medical device environment, including structured requirements, design documentation, coding standards, unit testing, traceability, risk controls, and software lifecycle processes.

Responsibilities

Core Software Development

- Design, develop, and maintain software applications and modules using C++17/20 and Qt
- Develop reliable and high-performance applications for Linux and Embedded Linux platforms
- Build modular and reusable software components for navigation, imaging, video, tracking, robotics, device control, and system workflows
- Develop responsive and touch-friendly Qt user interfaces for operating-room environments
- Implement multithreaded and asynchronous software architectures for real-time applications
- Optimize CPU, GPU, memory, and system-resource usage




- Implement robust error handling, logging, diagnostics, and recovery mechanisms
- Troubleshoot and resolve software defects, crashes, performance issues, and integration failures

System & Hardware Integration

- Integrate software with cameras, tracking systems, sensors, video capture devices, robotic components, and other medical or external hardware
- Interface with vendor SDKs, APIs, drivers, and communication protocols
- Develop and maintain interfaces using TCP/UDP, serial communication, USB, and other applicable protocols
- Support integration of imaging, navigation, tracking, video, and visualization modules
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, clinical, and testing teams during system integration and verification
- Support installation, configuration, software updates, and system-level troubleshooting

Qt / UI Development

- Develop and maintain Qt-based user interfaces using C++
- Create intuitive, responsive, and reliable workflows for clinical environments
- Develop reusable UI components and system-status indicators
- Integrate UI applications with backend services, navigation engines, imaging modules, and device controllers
- Ensure UI behaviour supports usability, safety, and clinical workflow requirements
- Support multi-display, touch, and high-resolution visualization environments

Medical Device Software Development

- Develop software according to approved software requirements, architecture, and design specifications
- Follow defined coding standards, development procedures, and software lifecycle processes
- Maintain traceability between software requirements, design, implementation, risks, and verification activities
- Develop and document unit tests and support software integration and system verification
- Implement software risk-control measures identified through product risk-management activities
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, risk reviews, and release-readiness reviews
- Support defect investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Ensure software changes are performed through controlled configuration and change-management processes

QARA / Regulatory Documentation

- Work according to Capla’s ISO 13485-based Quality Management System
- Support compliance with IEC 62304, ISO 14971, IEC 62366-1, EU MDR 2017/745, FDA Quality System requirements, and other applicable standards
- Prepare and maintain software requirements, design specifications, architecture documentation, unit test reports, and technical documentation




- Support requirement-to-code and requirement-to-test traceability
- Participate in risk-management activities and implementation of software-related risk controls
- Maintain software documentation suitable for regulatory submissions, audits, and inspections
- Support Quality & Regulatory teams during design reviews, regulatory submissions, and technical documentation preparation
- Ensure development activities comply with document-control, configuration-management, change-control, and release procedures

Software Quality & Testing

- Develop and maintain unit tests and support automated regression testing
- Perform debugging, integration testing, and software-level verification
- Collaborate with Verification & Validation teams to reproduce, analyse, and resolve defects
- Review software logs and system performance data to identify root causes of failures
- Support CI/CD pipelines and automated build and test environments
- Ensure software releases meet defined quality and documentation requirements

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline
- 3+ years of professional experience in C++ software development
- Strong proficiency in C++17/20 and Qt
- Strong experience developing software on Linux / Embedded Linux
- Experience with multithreading, memory management, debugging, and performance optimization
- Experience integrating hardware SDKs, APIs, sensors, cameras, or external devices
- Experience with Git, CMake, debugging tools, and software build systems
- Robust understanding of software architecture, object-oriented programming, and modular design
- Experience developing and testing reliable production software

Preferred

- Experience developing medical device software in a regulated environment
- Practical understanding of IEC 62304 and ISO 13485
- Familiarity with ISO 14971, IEC 62366-1, EU MDR, and FDA medical device software requirements
- Experience with medical device software requirements, design controls, traceability, risk management, and controlled releases
- Experience with Qt/QML and advanced Qt application development
- Experience with OpenGL, OpenCV, GStreamer, FFmpeg, NVIDIA Holoscan, CUDA, or GPU-accelerated processing
- Exposure to surgical navigation, medical imaging, robotics, tracking systems, or computer vision
- Experience with DICOM and medical imaging workflows
- Experience with real-time video acquisition, streaming, or visualization
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, static analysis, and code-quality tools
- Experience working in safety-critical or regulated healthcare environments
