Job Summary The Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Social Science will be responsible for providing academic and subject expertise in Social Science, supporting curriculum development, ensuring academic quality, and strengthening teaching-learning practices across the school. The role involves working closely with teachers and academic leadership to ensure effective curriculum delivery aligned with CBSE standards and the school's academic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

- Curriculum Development & Academic Planning

- Develop, review, and update Social Science curriculum, lesson plans, academic resources, and learning materials.
- Ensure curriculum alignment with CBSE guidelines, NCERT frameworks, and school academic objectives.
- Support the development of annual academic plans, unit plans, assessments, and enrichment activities.
- Review curriculum progression across grades and ensure appropriate learning outcomes.
- Identify gaps in curriculum delivery and recommend suitable academic interventions.

2. Subject Matter Expertise
- Provide expert guidance to Social Science teachers on subject content, pedagogy, and classroom practices.
- Ensure conceptual accuracy and age-appropriate delivery of History, Geography, Civics/Political Science, Economics and related areas.
- Stay updated with developments in the subject, curriculum frameworks, educational practices, and relevant academic resources.
- Encourage interdisciplinary and real-world connections within Social Science learning.

3. Teacher Support & Mentoring
- Mentor and guide Social Science teachers in effective teaching methodologies.
- Conduct demonstration classes, model lessons, workshops, and subject-specific training sessions.
- Observe classroom practices and provide constructive academic feedback.
- Support teachers in addressing learning gaps and improving student engagement.




- Facilitate sharing of best practices and innovative teaching strategies among faculty.

4. Assessment & Academic Quality
- Develop and review question papers, worksheets, assignments, projects, and assessment resources.
- Ensure assessments are aligned with learning outcomes and appropriate cognitive levels.
- Analyse student performance and identify areas requiring academic intervention.
- Support teachers in developing remedial and enrichment strategies.
- Review assessment standards and maintain consistency across grades.

5. Teaching & Learning Resources
- Develop high-quality teaching-learning resources, including presentations, worksheets, source-based materials, case studies, projects, maps, timelines, and research activities.
- Promote inquiry-based, experiential, and activity-oriented learning.
- Integrate technology and appropriate digital resources into Social Science teaching.
- Ensure resources encourage critical thinking, research skills, interpretation, analysis, and application.

6. Academic Monitoring
- Monitor the implementation of the Social Science curriculum across assigned grades.
- Review lesson plans, academic progress, assessments, and student learning outcomes.
- Track syllabus completion and support teachers in maintaining academic timelines.
- Participate in academic reviews and provide subject-specific inputs to academic leadership.

7. Student Enrichment
- Promote subject-related activities such as debates, discussions, quizzes, exhibitions, model-making, research projects, field studies, and presentations.
- Encourage students to develop critical thinking, communication, research, and analytical skills.




- Support participation in inter-school competitions, academic events, and subject-related initiatives.

8. Collaboration & School Initiatives
- Work collaboratively with Academic Heads, Coordinators, teachers, and other SMEs.
- Contribute to curriculum review meetings and academic planning.
- Support school-wide academic initiatives and professional development programmes.
- Participate in parent interactions or academic meetings when required.
- Undertake other academic responsibilities assigned by the school leadership.

Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in History / Geography / Political Science / Economics / Social Science or a related discipline.
- B.Ed. or equivalent teaching qualification is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of CBSE and NCERT curriculum.
- Relevant teaching/academic experience in a reputed school.
- Experience in curriculum development, teacher mentoring, assessment design, or academic leadership will be an advantage.

Experience
- Minimum 5–8 years of relevant teaching/academic experience, preferably with CBSE schools.
- Experience working as a Subject Lead, Academic Coordinator, SME, Curriculum Specialist, or similar academic role will be preferred.
