Position: Site Engineer (Sewerage/UGD Pipeline Works)

Role Overview

Responsible for day-to-day execution, quality control, and coordination of underground drainage (UGD) and sewer line network works, including open excavation, HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling), and micro tunneling methods, particularly in dense urban/heavy traffic environments, ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, and safety norms.

Key Responsibilities

- Supervise sewer line network laying using open-cut excavation, trenchless methods (HDD, micro tunneling/pipe jacking) as per project requirement
- Plan and monitor trench excavation, shoring/shuttering, dewatering, bedding, pipe laying, jointing, and backfilling in congested urban rights-of-way
- Coordinate HDD rig setup, bore path planning, pilot bore, reaming, and pipe pullback operations; liaise with HDD subcontractors/vendors
- Oversee microtunneling operations — shaft construction, jacking pit setup, pipe jacking sequence, and line/grade control
- Ensure pipe alignment, gradient, and invert levels as per design using survey instruments (Total Station/DGPS/level)
- Conduct quality checks — pipe joint integrity, hydro-testing, manhole construction, chamber connections
- Plan and execute works with minimal disruption to traffic — night work, phased excavation, plating/steel decking over open trenches, traffic diversion planning
- Coordinate with traffic police, municipal authorities,



and client engineers for permissions, inspections, and measurement
- Coordinate utility shifting/crossing (water, power, telecom, gas lines) during excavation in busy urban corridors
- Maintain site records: DPRs, material reconciliation, measurement books (MB), work progress reports
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols — deep excavation, confined space entry (manholes/shafts), public safety barricading in traffic-heavy areas
- Liaise with local residents/businesses for RoW access and restoration works

Required Qualifications
- Diploma/B.Tech in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
- Robust, hands-on knowledge of UGD and sewer line network works specifically — not general civil construction
- Proven experience executing sewerage/pipeline projects in heavy traffic, congested urban cities (not rural/greenfield only)
- Hands-on experience with at least two of: open excavation, HDD, microtunneling/pipe jacking

Skills
- Deep understanding of pipe materials (PVC, HDPE, DI, RCC) and jointing methods
- Experience managing traffic diversion plans and working within tight urban RoW constraints
- Familiarity with survey instruments and AutoCAD/basic drawing reading
- Experience handling subcontractors and coordinating with trenchless technology vendors
- Strong reporting and documentation skills (MS Excel, DPR formats)

Other Requirements
- Based in or willing to relocate to Kochi
- Comfortable with night shifts/off-hour working when required for traffic-sensitive stretches
- Two-wheeler/vehicle for site mobility preferred
