- Lead the design and build of our test automation from the ground up.
- Decide how we structure and organize automated testing across our desktop and web applications, so the approach is consistent and easy to build on.
- Check the quality of the team's work before it goes in and help fix problems when something isn't working well.
- Mentor and guide a junior engineer as they learn test automation from scratch.
- Be the person the team comes to when a tricky technical decision or problem needs to be resolved.
Technology Skills We Need
- Solid, hands-on coding experience in Python and/or Java.
- Experience using a test automation framework such as pytest, TestNG, or JUnit.
- Experience automating desktop applications (tools like pywinauto or WinAppDriver).
- Experience automating web applications (tools like Selenium or Playwright).
- Experience testing APIs/backend services (e.g. using Postman), not just what's visible on screen.
- Comfortable working with databases (e.g. MySQL, SQL Server) to check data is correct.
- Experience using Git (e.g. GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket) to manage code changes as part of a team.
- Experience setting up automated test runs using a CI/CD tool such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions, so tests run without manual effort each time.
- Familiarity with an issue-tracking or test management tool such as JIRA or Azure DevOps is a plus.

Quality We Expect
- Test scripts that are reliable and consistent — they don't randomly fail for no real reason.
- Code and notes that another engineer could pick up and understand without needing to ask the author.
- Consistent standards applied across the whole team's work, not just their own.
- Tests that genuinely catch real problems, not just tests that are written to always pass.
Nice to Have Not required — a bonus if a candidate already has some of this:
- Understanding of how serialization / track-and-trace systems work.
- Exposure to camera-based or vision inspection systems.
- Basic awareness of industrial automation (PLCs) or industrial printers.
- Awareness of quality/compliance standards such as ISO or 21 CFR Part 11.
- A software testing certification such as ISTQB.
Experience Required
- 7–10 years of hands-on software test automation experience overall.
- Has personally built a test automation setup from scratch before — not just added tests to one that already existed.
- Has experience mentoring, leading, or reviewing the work of less experienced engineers.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
