Tax Manager — U.S. Tax & accounting

Employment Type: Full-Time (Contract)

Location: India (Remote)

Market: United States

Schedule: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Arizona Time — non-negotiable

Compensation: ₹16–28 lakh (depending on the skills and experiences) fixed annual compensation + performance-based incentive (Exceptional candidates may be considered outside this range)

About the Opportunity

AJAZ Solutions is a recruitment agency helping companies hire specialized professionals. We are currently recruiting on behalf of one of our US-based clients , a growing tax, accounting, and fractional CFO firm serving business owners and high-income individuals.

The firm provides comprehensive U.S. tax and accounting services, including business and individual tax return preparation and filing, tax planning and tax-saving strategies, financial planning, accounting, and fractional CFO advisory services. Its clients often have complex financial and business structures and expect technically strong, proactive guidance—not simply accurate tax preparation.

About the Role

We are looking for a senior U.S. Tax Manager who can independently own the firm's tax function from a technical and team-leadership perspective.

This is not simply a tax-review position .

You will lead and develop the tax team, review complex U.S. tax returns, resolve technical questions, manage tax quality and deadlines, oversee workload and capacity, support tax planning and strategy implementation, and continuously improve the firm's tax processes.

The goal is simple: the tax team should be able to operate confidently without depending on senior leadership for routine technical decisions or day-to-day management.

You should be someone who can walk into an established tax team, understand what is happening, identify what is not working, make decisions, coach people, and take ownership.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead, manage, coach, and hold U.S. tax preparers and reviewers accountable.

- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for the tax team.
- Review complex individual and business tax returns, including 1040, 1120, 1120S, and 1065 .
- Oversee federal and state tax compliance, extensions, deadlines, K-1 dependencies, and return readiness.
- Review multi-entity structures, flow-through taxation, supporting workpapers, and book-to-tax adjustments.
- Identify technical errors, omissions, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure approved tax-planning strategies are correctly implemented in tax filings.
- Provide transparent technical guidance and research-based decisions to preparers.
- Manage tax-team workload, capacity, review queues, bottlenecks, and aging work.
- Establish and maintain strong tax-review and quality-control standards.
- Identify training gaps, recurring technical issues, and performance problems and address them proactively.
- Improve tax processes, documentation, checklists, and systems to reduce rework and recurring errors.
- Maintain accurate visibility into tax production, deadlines, risks, and blockers.
- Escalate genuinely complex matters to senior leadership with research, analysis, and a recommended position—not simply a question .
- Work closely with accounting, operations, and leadership to ensure tax work supports the firm's broader accounting, advisory, and fractional CFO services.

What We're Looking For

Required:

- 7+ years of hands-on U.S. tax experience.
- Deep experience with individual and business taxation.
- Strong experience with 1040, 1120, 1120S, and 1065 returns.

- Significant tax-return review experience—not preparation alone.
- Proven experience leading, managing, or supervising U.S. tax professionals.
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax compliance and tax research.
- Experience with closely held businesses, multi-entity structures, and flow-through entities.
- Strong understanding of tax planning and the ability to translate strategy into correct tax execution.
- Demonstrated ability to independently resolve technical tax questions.
- Strong judgment, analytical ability, and attention to detail.
- Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Experience managing remote or distributed teams.
- Ability and willingness to work 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Arizona Time every business day .

Strongly Preferred:

- U.S. CPA, EA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification.
- Experience with high-net-worth individuals and complex business owners.
- Experience with 1041s, complex partnership/corporate matters, or other advanced U.S. tax work.
- Experience with proactive tax planning and advisory.
- UltraTax experience.
- Karbon or similar tax/workflow management software.
- Experience leading an offshore or distributed U.S. tax team.
- Experience working within a tax, accounting, CPA, or fractional CFO firm.

The Person We Want We are looking for a self-starter and true tax leader , not someone who needs constant technical direction.

You should be comfortable making decisions, answering difficult questions, coaching experienced professionals, holding people accountable, and identifying problems before they become emergencies.

Most importantly, you should be capable of owning the technical side of the tax function with minimal dependence on executive leadership.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to build and lead a high-performing U.S. tax department, not simply review returns.
