Summary

Audax is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and delivery of a defined engineering domain within our banking-as-a-service platform. This is a hands-on technical leadership role responsible for driving solution design across adjacent domains, ensuring engineering readiness for committed initiatives, and mentoring engineers to raise technical standards. The role combines deep backend and distributed-systems expertise with practical application of AI-assisted development tooling to improve engineering quality and speed.

Responsibilities

- Lead design and build readiness for a defined engineering area so committed initiatives start with clear designs, dependencies, milestones, and operational considerations.
- Drive solution design across two or more adjacent domains, ensuring designs are actionable and adopted with minimal rework.
- Provide technical leadership on major trade-offs, architectural exceptions, and cross-team dependency decisions within owned domains.
- Improve delivery predictability and engineering quality by managing risks early and reducing quality-gate failures.
- Strengthen integration testing, E2E readiness, observability,



and reliability ownership for multi-component changes.
- Mentor engineers and align with Product, QA, DevOps, and Security on technical trade-offs and release readiness.
- Apply AI-assisted development tools (code generation, copilots, developer tooling) to improve engineering efficiency and code quality within the owned domain.
- Identify and shape performance and scalability risks early for critical flows or services to avoid late-stage surprises.
- Contribute to platform and shared engineering practices (CI/CD, observability, developer tooling) adopted across multiple teams.
- Evaluate emerging technologies relevant to the owned domain and recommend adoption where they materially improve delivery or reliability.

Requirements

- 8–12 years of software engineering experience, including demonstrated technical leadership at a Staff/Lead Engineer level.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java/Spring Boot, REST APIs, and distributed systems.
- Practical experience with cloud-native architecture (AWS), Kubernetes (EKS), Helm, and container orchestration.
- Experience with event-driven design, message brokers (e.g., SolacePubSub+), and API design patterns.
- Working knowledge of observability tooling (OpenSearch, Prometheus, Grafana) and distributed tracing.
- Experience with CI/CD pipeline design, Git workflows, and test automation.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools (code generation, copilots) in a production engineering context.




- Ability to mentor engineers and influence technical decisions across two or more adjacent teams or domains.
- Experience in fintech or digital banking environments preferred.
- Comfortable working hands-on in an IDE, reviewing PRs, and debugging production issues.
