Astanzi is seeking an experienced Publication Designer with exceptional design judgement, meticulous attention to detail and comprehensive knowledge of print production.

You should be able to interpret a brief, develop a distinctive visual direction and carry it through an entire publication with confidence. The role requires someone who can independently make and defend thoughtful design decisions, anticipate production issues and deliver finished work with minimal supervision.

The role

You will lead the design execution of publications across upcoming art and cultural projects, working directly with the cofounder and project team. Responsibilities span concept development, editorial design, typesetting, artwork preparation and production coordination. Immediate availability and the ability to work within demanding timelines are essential.

What we expect

- Exceptional publication design: A portfolio demonstrating sophisticated layouts, confident typography, strong visual hierarchy and considered relationships between text, images and white space.
- Original design thinking: The ability to develop distinctive editorial concepts suited to each publication’s content, purpose and audience, and sustain them across the full document.
- Solid editorial structure: A clear understanding of grids, pacing, sequencing, navigation and how individual spreads contribute to the reading experience.
- Meticulous attention to detail: Consistency across paragraph styles, spacing, alignment, folios, captions, credits and image treatments, with careful checks for typographic and layout errors.
- Complete print-production knowledge: Practical understanding of paper stocks, binding methods, finishes, colour management,



image resolution, bleed, safe areas, overprint, preflight checks and print-ready exports.
- Independent ownership: The ability to resolve design problems, review your own work critically and deliver polished layouts without step-by-step creative direction.
- Reliable execution: Accurate revisions, organised files and clear communication across multiple publications and tight deadlines.

Key responsibilities

- Develop publication concepts, design systems and sample spreads.
- Execute complete layouts for catalogues, books, reports, booklets and related editorial material.
- Work with supplied text and images, identifying content or asset issues early.
- Incorporate feedback while maintaining design quality and consistency.
- Recommend appropriate formats, materials and production specifications within project budgets.
- Liaise with printers, review proofs and resolve technical issues before production.
- Deliver thoroughly checked print-ready files, digital editions and complete editable working files.

Required experience and skills

- Proven experience independently delivering publications from concept through print production.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign, including styles, parent pages and long-document workflows.
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
- A portfolio showing complete publications and close-up details of printed outcomes.
- Experience in art, culture, architecture or design publishing would be an advantage.

Engagement: Project-based contract for 2–4 months

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
