Senior Engineer – Procurement Engineering & Supplier Excellence

About the Role

We are seeking a highly competent Mechanical Engineer to establish and strengthen Procurement Engineering and Supplier Excellence within our organization.

The incumbent will serve as the technical authority for procurement of heavy mechanical equipment, fabricated assemblies, castings, forgings, machined components, wear parts and industrial consumables. The role requires close collaboration with Procurement, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and Suppliers to ensure technically robust procurement decisions, superior manufacturing quality and lifecycle reliability of procured equipment.

This is a high-visibility role with a defined career progression into Techno-Commercial Procurement Lead/Manager, responsible for strategic sourcing, supplier development and commercial negotiations.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement Engineering

- Develop Technical Delivery Conditions (TDCs) for all procurement RFQs.
- Prepare comprehensive technical specifications for:
- Heavy fabricated structures
- Pressure and non-pressure equipment
- Castings
- Forgings
- Machined components
- Mechanical assemblies
- Rotating equipment
- Material handling equipment
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Wear parts and engineering consumables
- Define material specifications, manufacturing requirements, inspection criteria and acceptance standards.
- Standardize procurement specifications for recurring procurement items.
- Review vendor technical offers, deviations and compliance statements.
- Support techno-commercial evaluation and supplier selection.
- Drive value engineering, standardization and localization initiatives.

Supplier Quality & Manufacturing Excellence
- Prepare and review Quality Assurance Plans (QAPs).
- Prepare Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).




- Develop inspection checklists and manufacturing quality requirements.
- Define inspection hold and witness points.
- Conduct supplier capability assessments and technical audits.
- Perform in-process, stage and final inspections at supplier works.
- Witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Pre-Dispatch Inspections (PDIs).
- Review manufacturing records, welding documentation, NDT reports, dimensional inspection reports, material certificates and traceability records.
- Ensure compliance with contractual specifications, engineering standards and statutory requirements.

Manufacturing Engineering

Hands-on understanding of manufacturing processes including:
- Fabrication and welding
- Sand, investment and centrifugal casting
- Open-die and closed-die forging
- Ring rolling
- Precision machining and CNC machining
- Gear and shaft manufacturing
- Heat treatment
- Hardfacing and wear-resistant coatings
- Thermal spraying
- Surface treatment and painting systems
- Mechanical assembly
- Hydraulic systems
- Industrial packaging and preservation

Working knowledge of

- ASME
- ASTM
- API
- AWS
- ISO
- DIN

- BIS / IS Standards
- ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems

Knowledge of pressure equipment, welding standards, GD&T; and international inspection practices will be an added advantage.

Reliability & Failure Analysis

- Investigate component failures and quality concerns.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Suggest improvements in design, material selection and manufacturing processes.
- Support reliability improvement and lifecycle cost optimization initiatives.

- Identify, evaluate and develop current suppliers.
- Conduct supplier qualification and technical assessments.
- Improve supplier capability and manufacturing maturity.
- Benchmark suppliers against industry best practices.
