Who We Are

Carbelim is an IIT Madras Research Park-incubated climate technology company developing biological carbon capture systems powered by microalgae. We bring together biotechnology, mechanical engineering, environmental science and intelligent monitoring to create practical climate infrastructure for buildings, industries, public spaces and smart cities.

What We Do

We design and engineer photobioreactor-based products that capture carbon dioxide, improve air quality and convert captured carbon into useful resources. Our portfolio includes Carbon Bio-Facade systems, Carbelim Tree, AirForest indoor solutions, BioDivider panels, PureAir Tower and custom photobioreactors, supported by IoT-enabled monitoring and environmental analytics.

The Opportunity

This role owns the mechanical development of Carbelim products from early concept through design release and production support. You will turn multidisciplinary requirements into secure, durable and manufacturable systems for indoor and outdoor use, while working closely with biotechnology, electronics, manufacturing, quality and supplier teams.

Role Responsibilities:

- Lead mechanical product development from requirements and concept selection through prototyping, validation, design release and production support.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, detailed manufacturing drawings, tolerance schemes and bills of materials.
- Design plastic components using sound DFM and DFA principles, including draft, wall thickness, ribs, bosses, snap-fits, living hinges, gate considerations and shrinkage allowance.




- Design sheet-metal parts, enclosures and assemblies for laser cutting, bending, welding, finishing and repeatable fabrication.
- Engineer welded structures, machine frames, brackets and supports for defined static and dynamic load cases.
- Perform hand calculations and finite element analysis to validate strength, stiffness, buckling, vibration and factor of safety.
- Optimize products for performance, weight, durability, ease of assembly, serviceability and total manufacturing cost.
- Plan and support prototype builds, test execution, design verification and validation, failure analysis and corrective action.
- Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to assess process capability, resolve production issues and improve first-time-right output.
- Prepare assembly instructions, exploded views, technical specifications, inspection requirements and design records.
- Facilitate design reviews and contribute to DFMEA, PFMEA, root-cause analysis and engineering risk assessments.
- Control design changes through ECN and ECR processes and ensure released documentation remains accurate and traceable.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable customer requirements, engineering standards and internal quality procedures.
