Patel Greentech is subsidiary company of PIL, currently executing 0.70 GW Solar and 1.3 GWh BESS and 0.20 GW Wind projects and has a planned rollout of 3 GW Renewable Energy and 5 GWh BESS over the next three years. Our focus is on reliable, cost-optimized, and sustainable power solutions for energy-intensive industries.

Position Overview:

The Product Design & Development Manager will own and execute the complete product development lifecycle for LV, MV, HV and specialty power cables from concept definition, design and prototyping through testing, validation, customer approval and commercialisation.

The role will ensure that products are technically compliant, cost-effective, manufacturable and aligned with customer, application and market requirements. The position requires strong ownership, hands-on technical decision-making, execution focus, innovation and effective team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

1. Product Development and Innovation

- Lead end-to-end development of LV, MV, HV and specialty cable products.
- Own the product development roadmap and technical strategy for the power cable portfolio, including prioritization of new products based on customer requirements, market opportunities, technical feasibility and commercial potential.
- Develop solutions for solar, BESS, wind, power transmission and distribution, industrial and infrastructure applications.
- Convert customer, market and application requirements into practical cable designs.
- Develop new cable constructions, sizes, materials and application-specific solutions.
- Identify innovative concepts and convert them into technically feasible, tested and commercially viable products.
- Maintain and improve the existing product portfolio through standardisation, value engineering and continuous improvement.

2. Cable Design and Engineering

- Prepare, review and approve cable constructions, material selections and design parameters.
- Perform or verify calculations for current-carrying capacity, voltage drop, short-circuit performance, thermal requirements and mechanical performance.
- Optimise conductor, insulation, screen, armour and sheath construction.
- Drive product cost optimisation through design-to-cost, material optimisation, standardisation, alternate material evaluation and value engineering while maintaining required performance and reliability.




- Ensure designs are compatible with available manufacturing processes, equipment and tooling.
- Ensure compliance with applicable IS, IEC, utility and customer specifications.

3. Techno-Commercial Development

- Prepare and verify BOMs, material consumption statements and product cost estimates.
- Evaluate the technical and commercial feasibility of proposed products.
- Optimise material usage and product cost without compromising performance or reliability.
- Evaluate alternative materials and suppliers in coordination with Procurement.
- Provide technical inputs for target costing, pricing and commercial proposals.

4. Prototype, Testing and Validation

- Plan and coordinate prototype development, sample preparation and production trials.
- Coordinate type, routine and other applicable product testing.
- Review test results and implement necessary design changes.
- Prepare validation plans, test requirements and qualification documentation.
- Coordinate customer, consultant, utility and product approvals.

5. Product Certification & Approvals

- Lead and coordinate product certification, qualification and approval activities for new and modified cable products.
- Identify applicable IS, IEC, BIS, utility, customer and other national/international certification requirements based on product type and application.
- Develop certification and testing plans, including identification of applicable type tests, special tests, routine tests and third-party certification requirements.
- Coordinate with BIS, CPRI, ERDA, NABL-accredited laboratories, certification bodies, utilities and other relevant agencies for product testing, certification and approvals.
- Ensure timely completion and renewal of product certifications, licences, approvals and test certificates.

6. Manufacturing and Industrialisation Support

- Ensure new products are production-ready and manufacturable.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing on trials, tooling, process requirements and equipment capability.
- Resolve design-related production issues and support root-cause analysis.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure successful transfer of approved products to regular production.

7. Supplier, Vendor and Factory Visits

- Visit supplier, vendor, manufacturing, testing and customer facilities as required.
- Evaluate supplier capabilities, manufacturing processes, quality systems, testing facilities and capacity.
- Coordinate supplier trials, sample development, technical evaluations and corrective actions.
- Support supplier qualification and performance improvement with Procurement and Quality teams.
- Prepare factory visit reports and monitor agreed improvement actions.




- Regular travel is required for audits, technical discussions, trials, inspections, testing, troubleshooting and product approvals.

8. Customer and Technical Support

- Review customer specifications, tender requirements and application conditions.
- Provide technical support to Sales and Business Development teams.
- Participate in customer, consultant and utility discussions when required.
- Evaluate customised cable requirements and recommend suitable solutions.
- Support technical submissions, product approvals and customer clarifications.

9. Documentation and Design Control

- Prepare and maintain product specifications, cable construction drawings, design calculations, BOMs, technical datasheets, cost sheets, test requirements and validation reports.
- Maintain design revisions, change records and approval status.
- Ensure controlled release of approved designs and technical documents.
- Maintain traceability of design changes, test results and customer approvals.

10. Team and Project Leadership

- Lead, guide and develop Product Development and Design Engineers.
- Plan NPD activities, resources, trials and development timelines.
- Monitor project milestones, risks, dependencies and action items.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, Sales and Commercial teams.
- Report development status, technical issues, risks and corrective actions to management.
- Build technical capability within the team through coaching, reviews and knowledge sharing.
- Promote accountability, timely execution and effective decision-making.

Qualifications Education & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical & Electronics Engineering.
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Cable Technology, Materials Engineering, Product Development, or a related field will be an added advantage.
- 8–12 years of relevant experience in LV/MV/HV power cable design, product development, R&D; or cable manufacturing, With Strong Exposure to power cable design and new product development and industrialisation.
- Experience in solar, BESS, wind, specialty cables or renewable-energy applications will be an advantage.
- Experience in supplier evaluation, factory visits, testing, production trials and product industrialisation.
