Role Description

This is a remote, volunteer role for a Senior FastAPI Developer – Team Leader – Backend – SaaS – Software. The person in this role will lead the architecture and development of backend services using FastAPI, focusing on building scalable, secure, and maintainable SaaS solutions that support the organization’s sanitation and wellness initiatives. Daily responsibilities include designing APIs, implementing and testing backend features, reviewing code, and guiding other developers on best practices and technical standards.

The team leader will collaborate with product and project stakeholders to translate social impact requirements into technical specifications, ensure integration with other systems, and maintain documentation. This role also involves mentoring volunteers and contributors, coordinating sprints, and promoting a culture of clean code, reliability,



and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Solid backend development skills in Python, with substantial experience using FastAPI and building RESTful APIs.

Proficiency in designing and working with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including schema design, optimization, and secure data handling.

Experience in SaaS application architecture, microservices, and cloud-based deployment (e.g., Docker, containerization, CI/CD pipelines).

Knowledge of software engineering best practices, including testing (unit/integration), version control (Git), and documentation.

Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, conduct code reviews, mentor developers, and coordinate collaborative workflows.

Comfort working in remote, distributed teams, with clear communication, ownership, and time management.

Understanding of security, performance optimization, and scalability in web services and backend systems.

Commitment to social impact and interest in public health, sanitation, or nonprofit technology initiatives.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience with frontend integration, APIs for mobile applications, or DevOps practices is beneficial.
