Purpose

As a Senior Engineering Manager at Woolworths Group, you are a visionary leader who will spearhead the technical strategy and execution for a critical segment of our global digital ecosystem. You will cultivate a thriving environment for a high-performing team of engineers—fostering a forward-thinking environment that explores and adopts modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted and agentic development workflows. You will ensure the Bangalore team is recognized for innovation, critical thinking, and technical resilience.

Your success is defined by your ability to solve complex problems end-to-end, cultivate strong domain capabilities, and serve as a trusted partner to your ANZ counterparts as a leading example of high-impact collaboration.

Scope:

This role carries technical stewardship for a core area within Woolworths’ digital landscape. You will work closely with senior leadership, Product Managers, Designers, and Architects across ANZ and India to shape the technical vision and define the roadmap. You are responsible for ensuring the delivery of robust, scalable, and secure technology solutions that bridge business intent with high-impact technical execution, while establishing reusable patterns and driving the continuous evolution of Woolworths’ global engineering culture.

What you’ll do

- Define & Champion Technical Vision & Strategy: Develop and articulate a compelling technical vision for your designated area. As a strategic partner to ANZ leads, ensure technical strategy aligns with business objectives, proactively challenging suboptimal paths and advocating for long-term architectural health.
- Lead, Inspire & Modernize Engineering Culture: Build and mentor a high-performing team by instilling an agile, continuous-learning mindset. Guide the team in exploring and adopting modern development workflows (such as AI-assisted tools and agentic practices). Foster a culture of deep architectural intuition (DDD, Clean Code, SOLID) where engineers don't just execute,



but act as Analytical & Critical Thinkers who understand the "why" behind every line of code.
- Drive Technical Excellence as a Disciplined Quality Guardian: Establish high standards for code quality, system safety, and architectural design. Serve as a Quality Guardian—critically reviewing technical proposals, maintaining a rigorous Verification Mindset, and ensuring that code generated via automated or AI tools is thoroughly validated for edge cases, performance, and security.
- Oversee Strategic Technical Planning & Delivery: Guide your team in conducting thorough technical assessments and risk analyses. Act as the Domain Bridge, translating complex business requirements into validatable technical chunks. Collaborate across ANZ and India to maintain a prioritized roadmap that balances immediate delivery with long-term technical sustainability.
- Champion Operational Excellence: Be a relentless advocate for reliability and security. Foster a security-first mindset, ensuring systems are built to the highest standards of performance, resilience, and privacy. Ensure your team operates with a "find a way" attitude to solve complex operational challenges.
- Outcome Leadership & Proactive Communication: Ensure total clarity on target outcomes across distributed teams. As a proactive communicator, engage with stakeholders across the organization to articulate trade-offs, document decisions, and foster a seamless, high-trust partnership between the Bangalore and ANZ teams.

What you’ll bring

- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 12+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in engineering leadership roles.
- Track Record: Proven ability to deliver complex, large-scale software solutions within fast-paced environments.
- Distributed Leadership: Proven experience working in distributed, cross-functional teams, collaborating effectively across time zones and geographies (ANZ and India).
- Contemporary Tooling & AI Adoption: Familiarity with, or a strong interest in,



leveraging AI coding tools and emerging agentic workflows to enhance engineering productivity and delivery speed.
- Mentorship & Quality Culture: Demonstrated ability to mentor teams in adopting high-ownership behaviors, architectural rigor (DDD, SOLID), and robust verification practices
