About the Role

Procurement Partners is hiring a Senior Data Scientist to build the decision science capability inside our platform: forecasting what customers will need, and optimizing what they should buy, when, and from whom. You will be the first person focused on it, inside an established product and engineering organization.

Customers buy thousands of line items a month from hundreds of suppliers, and today those decisions rest on memory and habit.

This is a research engineering role in close orbit with AI Labs, a small applied group that takes emerging technology from idea to production and hands it to the teams who own it. What's distinct is who consumes your work: some becomes a recommendation a person sees, much becomes tools AI agents call in a loop.

What You'll Do

- Forecast demand across many short, sparse, intermittent series, and quantify the uncertainty.
- Build optimization and sequential decision models that turn forecasts into actions: order quantity and timing, inventory policy, and supplier and substitution choices under budget, contract,



pack-size, and lead-time constraints.
- Map supplier line items to a normalized catalog, with review workflows for uncertain matches.
- Detect anomalies and fraud in pricing, spend, invoicing, and supplier behavior, and surface what merits human attention.
- Use market basket and affinity analysis to learn what customers buy together and what they are likely to need next.
- Expose models as versioned, documented tools that agents and services can call, with calibrated confidence and predictable behavior on unexpected input.
- Own model quality in production: baselines, backtesting that respects time and entity structure, error analysis, regression checks, and the call on when to retrain or roll back. Our platform team provides the monitoring and deployment machinery.
- Design experiments and causal analyses that establish whether a decision model changed the outcome, and communicate findings and limitations to executives.
- Partner with Data Engineering on pipelines, Product Management on what is worth building, and AI Engineers on how your models get consumed.

What You'll Bring

Required

- Carried ideas from open question to production in a small, autonomous group, often as the first or only person on the problem: framing it, building it, measuring honestly, and knowing when to stop.
- 8+ years in Data Science, Machine Learning, or Operations Research.
- At least one model shipped to real users and measurably improved after launch.
- Forecasting, including sparse and intermittent series.




- Optimization and sequential decision problems under uncertainty: mathematical programming, heuristics, simulation, or dynamic programming.
- Causal analysis: experiment design, quasi-experimental methods, and a clear view of what an evaluation does not cover.
- Python and SQL, with ML breadth across regression, classification, clustering, entity resolution, anomaly detection, and market basket analysis.
- Deploying and running models in the cloud. We are an AWS shop; equivalent depth on any cloud transfers.
- Shipping model outputs for programmatic consumers — services, APIs, or agents — with version control, tests, and packaging other teams depend on.
- Presenting a result, its uncertainty, and its limitations to an executive audience.
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or technical field.

- Inventory, replenishment, or supply chain optimization.
- B2B procurement or healthcare procurement domain experience.
- Catalog normalization or product matching against a messy supplier catalog.
- Reinforcement learning and contextual bandits.
- Fraud or financial anomaly detection.
- Master's and/or PhD in a quantitative or technical field.
- Published research, granted or filed patents, or significant open-source work.
- Operating what you ship — monitoring, retraining, drift, cost. Platform support is provided.
- Professional certification in AI, machine learning, cloud, or data engineering.
