Position Title: Head - Semiconductor & Deep-Tech Skilling

Role Overview:
The Head will lead the vision, operational establishment, and strategic growth of the new state-of-the-art Semiconductor Skilling Centre being established in Bengaluru under the Ramaiah Institute for Advanced
Skills and Technology (RIASAT).
Working in direct alignment with the CEO, the Centre Head will bridge academic frameworks, hands-on skill development, advanced prototyping, and commercial implementation. The role acts as a strategic driver across the ecosystem triad connecting RISM (Ramaiah Institute of Science and Management), RIASAT, and Vyuha Deep Science Translation to build India semiconductor and deep-tech capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Hands-on Skilling & Advanced Facility Development
Oversee the layout optimization, equipment procurement, vendor evaluation, installation, and commissioning of RIASAT's semiconductor testing and characterization facilities.
Drive hands-on training initiatives in Surface Mount Technology (SMT), PCB assembly, and advanced electronics manufacturing in collaboration with IIT Madras.
Activate master-trainer instructional programs and specialized modules for micro-assembly, SMT and vacuum equipment subsystems in partnership with IISc (CeNSE), Bengaluru.
2. Multi-Level Curriculum & Academic Collaborations
Implement a multi-tiered, stacked competency educational model spanning vocational certifications, technical diplomas, and postgraduate skill pathways.
Coordinate with the University at Albany (SUNY) to align STEM curricula, build faculty capabilities,
and create global learning/research exchanges in semiconductors, microelectronics, and AI.
3. Rapid Prototyping & Technology Development
Establish technology progression pathways from TRL-4 to TRL-9 in partnership with the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), focusing on micromachining, sensor packaging,
teardown, and precision engineering.
Implement digital engineering platforms, simulation-driven product validation, and virtual-twin workflows utilizing Dassault Systmes tools (CATIA, SIMULIA, DELMIA, 3DEXPERIENCE Edu).
4. Industry Collaboration & Space Applications
Lead industrial outreach to build active partnerships, securing corporate sponsorships,
cooperative R&D; projects, and industry-sponsored skilling programs.
Drive the technology validation pipeline with Dhruva Space, overseeing performance assessments and systems integration to translate semiconductor components and electronics into space-
qualified applications.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications:
Industry Recognition: A well-recognized, highly respected leader in the semiconductor and electronics manufacturing industry with an extensive professional network across corporate,
academic, and government sectors.
Experience:
15 to 20+ years of progressive leadership experience in semiconductor engineering,
packaging, testing, advanced manufacturing, or deep-tech product translation.
Educational Background: Advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Materials Science, Nanoengineering, or a related discipline
Partnership Leadership: Proven track record of managing multi-stakeholder ecosystems involving industry consortia, research labs (e.g., IISc, CMTI), academic institutions, and space/defense organizations.
Operational Capabilities: Strong background in establishing cleanrooms, testing labs, or manufacturing lines, alongside a passion for workforce development and multi-level skilling.
12-Month Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Focus Area :
12-Month Target - Complete setup, vendor commissioning, and full operational launch of the
Bengaluru Semiconductor & SMT Testing Centre.
Facility Readiness - Launch initial cohorts for SMT/PCB assembly and advanced manufacturing certificate programs.
Skilling Programs Academic Integration - Execute the first joint faculty development program and global learning module with the University at Albany.
Technology Pipelines - Initiate at least two hardware prototyping projects progressing from TRL-4
towards higher readiness tiers with CMTI.
Space Qualification - Establish a formalized qualification pipeline for semiconductor components testing with Dhruva Space.
