SAP HR ABAP Developer – Senior Associate / ConsultantExperience: 5–10 Years

About the RoleWe are looking for experienced SAP HR ABAP Developers to build, enhance, and support the technical layer of a large, live SAP HCM landscape.
The role involves hands-on development across Payroll (PY), Organizational Management (OM), Personnel Administration (PA), and Time Management (TM). You will be responsible for developing complex ABAP programs, interfaces, forms, enhancements, and integrations while working closely with functional consultants and business analysts.
The role requires strong technical ownership, from requirement analysis and technical design through development, testing, deployment, production support, and user enablement.
The candidate should also be comfortable using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor and Claude for coding, debugging, and code review.
Key Responsibilities1. Core SAP ABAP Development
- Develop, test, debug, and maintain complex ABAP programs for SAP HCM implementation and support.
- Develop Classical and ALV Reports, Dialog/Module Pool Programs, Custom Transactions, and Background Jobs.
- Implement enhancements using User Exits, Customer Exits, BAdIs, and Enhancement Spots.
- Develop data conversion and migration programs using BDC, LSMW, and BAPIs.
- Develop output forms using SAPscript, Smart Forms, and Adobe Forms.
- Develop and consume OData services and REST APIs for Fiori, portals, and third-party applications.
- Analyse, implement, and regression-test relevant SAP OSS Notes.
- Perform code optimisation and follow SAP coding, naming, security, and development standards.
2. SAP HR / Payroll Development
- Work across SAP PY, OM, PA, and TM modules.
- Develop HR-specific technical objects including:
- Infotype enhancements
- Custom infotypes
- Dynamic Actions
- HR Logical Databases
- HR Macros
- Payroll and Time Management reports
- Payroll clusters
- Provide technical support during payroll cycles,
statutory reporting, and period-end activities.
- Develop and support payroll posting, bank file, statutory, and third-party interfaces.
3. Integration & • Interfaces
- Design and develop integrations using:
- BAPI
- RFC
- ALE
- IDOCs
- Handle IDOC configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and error resolution.
- Develop integrations between SAP HR and downstream systems such as FI, time-capture systems, advantages platforms, and vendor applications.
- Build and support file-based and API-based integrations with reconciliation and exception reporting.
4. Analysis, Testing & • Delivery
- Follow SAP ASAP / SAP Activate methodologies across the project lifecycle.
- Analyse business and technical requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
- Prepare Technical Specifications (TS) and development documentation.
- Prepare test data and perform Unit Testing, Integration Testing, and UAT Support.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and provide permanent solutions for recurring application issues.
- Manage transports, version control, deployment, and technical documentation across environments.
- Identify critical application issues, analyse data, evaluate alternatives, and recommend appropriate solutions.
5. Collaboration & • Production Support
- Work closely with SAP Functional Consultants, Business Analysts, and business stakeholders.
- Ensure business requirements are correctly translated into technical solutions.
- Provide production support and troubleshoot critical issues.
- Conduct knowledge transfer and prepare user guides and handover documentation.
- Support users and stakeholders effectively throughout the solution lifecycle.
Mandatory Skills
- SAP ABAP:
4–6+ years of strong hands-on experience.
- Strong experience in:
- Classical & • ALV Reports
- Dialog/Module Pool Programming

- BAdIs / User Exits / Customer Exits
- SAPscript
- Smart Forms
- Adobe Forms
- Strong working knowledge of SAP HR/HCM modules: PY, OM, PA, and TM.
- Hands-on experience with HR-specific ABAP, including:
- Infotypes
- Logical Databases
- HR Macros
- Payroll Clusters
- Strong integration experience with BAPI, RFC, ALE, and IDOCs.
- Experience developing and consuming OData Services / REST APIs.
- Hands-on experience in SAP data conversion/migration, preferably HR or FI.
- Practical experience with Cursor and Claude or similar AI-assisted development tools.
- Experience in analysing, implementing, and validating SAP OSS Notes.
- Knowledge of SAP ASAP / Activate methodology.
- Good understanding of HR and Payroll business processes.

Qualification
- B.E. / B.Tech (minimum) or MCA from a recognised institution.
- SAP ABAP or SAP HCM certification will be an added advantage.
Ideal CandidateCandidates should have strong hands-on SAP HR ABAP development experience along with practical exposure to SAP HCM modules, Payroll, ABAP enhancements, forms, interfaces, IDOCs, OData/API development, and HR-specific technical objects. Immediate joiners are preferred/required.
