Role Overview A mid-sized SaaS product organization develops AI-powered, codeless test automation for banking and retail clients. This mid-senior role is for a consultant who delivered hands-on SAP functional implementation work before moving into SAP testing and automation. The consultant reports through a matrixed product and delivery structure, partnering with engineering, quality, business and client-facing teams and engaging senior leadership as needed.

Implementation knowledge should inform test coverage, defect analysis, automation design and reliable release decisions.

Role location: Bengaluru (South).

Key Responsibilities

- Analyse business processes in the assigned SAP functional module or modules, clarify approved requirements and identify the controls and transactions that testing must protect.
- Translate implementation knowledge, process flows and functional specifications into traceable acceptance criteria and realistic test scenarios for business-critical workflows.
- Review SAP configuration against agreed requirements and explain the functional implications of changes, dependencies and exceptions to delivery stakeholders.
- Plan risk-based functional, system integration, user acceptance, smoke, regression and end-to-end test coverage across enhancements, rollouts and releases.
- Prepare test data and expected results that reflect master data, transactional dependencies, permissions and downstream process outcomes.
- Execute test cycles, retain clear evidence, record actual outcomes and distinguish configuration defects from data, interface and automation issues.
- Develop, customize and debug JavaScript-based automated SAP tests and reusable components for stable, high-value regression scenarios.
- Convert suitable manual scenarios into maintainable automated checks without losing business intent, assertions or requirements traceability.
- Validate interfaces and cross-functional hand-offs with business users, ABAP developers, quality engineers and integration teams.
- Document defects with reproducible steps, business impact, priority, supporting evidence and explicit retest and closure criteria.
- Maintain regression assets, script reviews, version control, execution schedules, coverage records and release-readiness evidence.
- Communicate risks, coverage gaps,



defect trends and release recommendations; support cutover, go-live and post-production validation when relevant.

Required Qualifications A bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience, is required. Candidates must demonstrate direct SAP functional implementation contribution before their testing career, sound business-process knowledge and working JavaScript proficiency for automation. No certification is mandatory. Required Experience A minimum of 5 years of directly relevant SAP functional experience is required; 5–10 years is the preferred range. The candidate must have worked hands-on on at least one SAP implementation before moving into SAP testing or automation, with attributable functional responsibilities such as requirements analysis, functional specifications, configuration validation, integration or cutover and go-live support. Testing-only tenure, even across SAP projects, does not satisfy the implementation requirement. Subsequent ownership of structured SAP functional, system integration, user acceptance and regression testing is required.

Experience in banking or retail enterprise programs is useful but not mandatory.

Technical and Functional Skills

Depth in at least one SAP functional module and the related business processes, master data, transactions, configuration and cross-functional dependencies is essential. The role requires requirements mapping, functional specification documents (FSDs), configuration validation, test design, requirements traceability, test data, defect lifecycle management and release evidence. Candidates must write, adapt and debug JavaScript ES6+ automation scripts, use reusable components and maintain SAP regression coverage in a JavaScript-based framework or a comparable codeless or code-assisted platform.

Working knowledge of web interfaces, HTML, CSS,



DOM behaviour, REST APIs and JSON supports integration validation. Collaboration with ABAP teams is necessary; ABAP development ownership is not required.

Soft Skills and Behavioural Competencies

Explain business-process risks clearly to users, engineers, quality teams and delivery leaders. Show analytical discipline, careful evidence handling, practical prioritization and the ability to isolate the cause of a failed process or automated check. Take ownership of follow-through from test design to defect closure while working constructively in a cross-functional, matrixed team.

Preferred or Value-Added Qualifications

End-to-end implementation experience from discovery through stabilization, exposure to more than one SAP module or enterprise integration pattern, and work in banking or retail environments strengthen an application. Relevant SAP, testing or automation certifications, reusable automation design, API-assisted validation and experience with codeless or code-assisted tools are valuable.

Professional Tenure and Background A strong profile shows a transparent progression from SAP functional implementation into testing and automation, with increasing responsibility for business outcomes.

Experience may come from consulting firms, enterprise technology providers, product teams or complex client-side SAP programs. Candidates should distinguish work they personally owned from team deliverables and be able to explain verifiable improvements in process reliability, coverage, defect resolution or regression execution. Employer brand alone is not a substitute for direct implementation evidence.
