About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Safety Officer to manage safety, EHS compliance and emergency preparedness for a HEMM-intensive coal mining operation.

The candidate should have strong practical exposure to open-cast mining, HEMM operations, heavy vehicle movement, workshops and field safety, with the ability to independently manage day-to-day safety activities and emergency response coordination.

Key Responsibilities

- Implement and monitor site safety procedures and EHS practices across mining and HEMM operations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of tippers, excavators, loaders, graders, dozers, haul roads, loading/dumping areas, workshops and other work areas.
- Identify unsafe conditions and unsafe practices and ensure timely corrective actions.
- Monitor safe operation and movement of HEMM and heavy vehicles.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, worker induction and safety awareness programs.
- Prepare and implement Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Risk Assessments and Safe Work Procedures for critical activities.
- Coordinate accident, incident and near-miss reporting and investigation.
- Lead emergency response activities and coordinate rescue, first aid, fire response and evacuation during emergencies.
- Develop and conduct emergency response and mock drills.
- Ensure availability and readiness of first-aid equipment, fire-fighting equipment, emergency equipment and PPE.
- Maintain safety registers, inspection reports, training records, incident reports and other required documentation.
- Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, HR, Security and other departments on safety matters.
- Support client/statutory safety inspections, audits and compliance requirements.
- Monitor closure of safety observations and corrective/preventive actions.




- Immediately escalate serious safety risks, accidents and critical violations to project management.

Qualification

- Diploma / Degree in Engineering, Science or a related discipline.
- Diploma / Certification in Industrial Safety / Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent recognized safety qualification.
- Mining-specific safety qualification/certification will be an advantage.

Experience & Preferred Background

5–10 years of relevant experience, preferably in:

- Open-cast coal mining
- HEMM-intensive mining operations
- Mining contractors
- Quarry / heavy earthmoving operations
- Large fleet operations

Candidates should have practical experience in HEMM safety, accident investigation, risk assessment, emergency response, safety inspections and workforce safety training.

Candidate Profile The ideal candidate should be field-oriented, alert, practical and capable of taking independent safety decisions in a high-production mining environment.

Experience in a purely office-based safety/compliance role without substantial mining/HEMM field exposure will not be preferred.

Salary @ market standards depending on qualification, relevant experience and suitability.
