This role goes beyond filling a position—it’s about empowering an engineer to solve complex rotating equipment problems, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to the evolution of advanced equipment diagnostics.

As a Rotating Equipment Engineer specializing in Reciprocating Compressors and Gas Engines, you will support the monitoring and diagnosis of those equipment across LNG, oil & gas, refinery, petrochemical, and power generation facilities. You will work closely with customers, senior engineers, and subject matter experts to investigate equipment behavior, identify root causes, and deliver actionable engineering recommendations.

You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of Mechademy’s Turbomechanica platform, helping translate real-world equipment behavior and engineering knowledge into improved monitoring and diagnostic capabilities.

Responsibilities

- Monitor and analyze live and historical customer plant data to identify abnormal equipment behavior, equipment degradation, process disturbances, and potential instrumentation issues.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot reciprocating compressors, gas engines, screw compressors, and associated auxiliary systems.
- Perform vibration, performance, and operational analysis to investigate equipment issues and support root-cause investigations.
- Analyze reciprocating compressor behavior, including cylinder performance, valve behavior, loading, capacity control, lubrication systems, and associated auxiliaries.
- Validate and respond to alerts generated through Mechademy’s monitoring and diagnostic systems.
- Support the development and validation of physics-based and engineering diagnostic capabilities on the Turbomechanica platform alongside domain experts.
- Apply engineering principles and data-driven approaches to improve the reliability and availability of critical machinery.
- Prepare clear technical reports, event summaries, and actionable engineering recommendations for customers.

- Serve as a technical advisor to customers during equipment investigations and technical review meetings.
- Work closely with software, data science, product, and remote monitoring teams to improve diagnostic capabilities using real-world equipment data.
- Contribute to standardizing diagnostic processes, technical documentation, and engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and subject matter experts on complex investigations and escalations.
- Contribute flexibly across engineering initiatives in a fast-paced and evolving technology environment.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 4–6 years of relevant industrial experience in rotating equipment engineering, diagnostics, troubleshooting, performance evaluation, or reliability.
- Significant hands-on experience with reciprocating compressors and/or gas engines.
- Experience with screw compressors is an advantage.
- Solid understanding of rotating equipment fault detection, troubleshooting, and vibration analysis.
- Good understanding of reciprocating compressor systems, including cylinders, valves, loading behavior, capacity control, lubrication systems, and associated auxiliaries.
- Understanding of compressor and engine performance, operating parameters, and process interactions.
- Ability to interpret operational and process data to diagnose equipment behavior and performance issues.
- Ability to review and understand P&IDs;, equipment datasheets, and OEM technical documentation.
- Experience in LNG, oil & gas, refinery, petrochemical, or power generation industries is preferred.
- Exposure to plant monitoring systems such as OSIsoft PI, DCS, SCADA, or vibration monitoring platforms is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical report-writing skills.
- Experience with Python or similar data-analysis tools is a strong plus.
- ISO 18436-2 Vibration Analyst certification is an advantage.
- OEM training or certifications related to reciprocating compressors, screw compressors, or gas engines are a plus.
- Familiarity with relevant API standards is an advantage.
