Role Description The Rotomation Artist is a full-time, on-site role based at PixStone Images’ Chennai studio. This role involves creating high-quality rotomation for live-action plates, including accurately tracking and animating characters, props, and cameras to match on-set movement.

The Rotomation

Artist will interpret storyboards and shot requirements, work closely with the matchmove, animation, and compositing teams, and ensure that rotomation outputs meet technical and artistic specifications. Daily tasks include reviewing reference footage, refining rigging and motion for realistic interaction, troubleshooting technical issues, and maintaining consistency across shots in a sequence.



The artist is expected to follow established pipeline workflows, adhere to production schedules, and proactively communicate with supervisors and peers to meet project deadlines.

Qualifications

- Strong proficiency in rotomation and matchmove, including accurate camera tracking and character/object motion recreation.
- Hands-on experience with industry-standard VFX and 3D software (e.g., Maya, Nuke, Mocha, 3DEqualizer, or equivalent tools).
- Solid understanding of 3D fundamentals such as rigging, animation principles, scene layout, and integration with compositing workflows.
- Ability to interpret plate photography, lens data, and on-set reference for exact alignment of CG elements with live-action footage.
- Good artistic eye for motion, perspective, and continuity, with attention to detail and quality control across multiple shots.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to follow feedback from leads and supervisors and work efficiently in a team-oriented production environment.
- Prior experience in a VFX studio or similar production pipeline is highly beneficial; familiarity with feature film or episodic workflows is a plus.
- Relevant diploma or degree in Animation, VFX, Computer Graphics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
