The Centre for Commercial Determinants of Health (C-CDoH) builds on and expands nearly two decades of research and action by the Institute in the areas of tobacco control and prevention of non-communicable diseases. The Centre focuses on how commercial activities, corporate practices, markets, and broader economic structures influence health and health inequities through social, cultural, environmental, and political pathways. It aims to promote commercial and economic policies and practices that advance health and health equity.

About the role:

The Research Fellow (Non-Medical) will provide scientific leadership for the quantitative methods component for a project nested within the Centre for Commercial Determinants of Health, with a focus on statistical analysis, mathematical modelling, and validation of the integrated surveillance framework. The role will lead advanced analytical methods, integrate and analyse multiple data sources, ensure data quality and reproducible workflows, and provide methodological guidance to the project team. The incumbent will also contribute to study design, interpretation of findings, policy-relevant outputs, technical and scientific publications, capacity building, and project monitoring and compliance.

Education Qualification

First Class Postgraduate Degree, including the integrated PG degree, in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematical Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, or another relevant quantitative discipline or PhD in any of the above disciplines.

Work Experience





Minimum 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience.

- Experience in multilevel (hierarchical) modelling, generalized linear models, structural equation modelling, or related statistical approaches.
- Experience in machine learning techniques for classification, prediction and model validation.
- Experience in fuzzy cognitive modelling, systems modelling, simulation techniques or complex systems analysis.
- Experience in analysing large-scale population datasets such as NFHS, NSS, LASI or similar surveys.
- Proficiency in statistical software such as R, Python, STATA, SAS or SPSS.
- Experience in reproducible research workflows using version control and analytical documentation.
- Demonstrated publication record in peer-reviewed journals involving advanced quantitative analyses.
- Excellent scientific writing, communication and team-oriented research skills.

Job location

The position is based out of Bangalore. With frequent travel to project sites across Kerala, Gujarat,



Bihar and Tripura.

Roles and Responsibilities

- Lead the development of statistical analysis plans and analytical strategies across all work packages.
- Provide scientific leadership for quantitative analyses and ensure methodological rigour throughout the project.
- Lead advanced statistical analyses, including multilevel modelling, seemingly unrelated regression models, machine learning approaches and other appropriate analytical methods.
- Develop and apply fuzzy cognitive models and other systems modelling approaches to support surveillance framework development.
- Lead validation of the integrated surveillance framework using appropriate internal and external datasets.
- Develop composite indices and quantitative indicators to support surveillance of commercial and policy determinants of health.
- Integrate and harmonize primary survey data with secondary datasets, including NFHS and other relevant national databases, where appropriate.
- Develop reproducible analytical workflows and ensure data integrity, documentation and quality assurance throughout the analytical process.
- Contribute to study design, interpretation of findings and evidence synthesis across work packages.
- Lead preparation of statistical reports, technical documents, peer-reviewed manuscripts and policy briefs.
- Mentor project staff on statistical methods and contribute to capacity-building activities within the project team.

Duration

The duration of the employment will be for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and extension of the project and availability of funds.
