About Us
Plaksha University is a 21st-century university focused on solving global challenges through transformative technology education. Plaksha brings together students, faculty, researchers, industry leaders, and a global community to create solutions to complex challenges through interdisciplinary research and technology.
The Water Lab at Plaksha University works on research focused on water systems and their management, bringing together field observations, data, modelling, and analytical approaches to address real-world water challenges.
About the Role
The Water Lab at Plaksha University invites applications for a Research Associate A to contribute to the project “Urban Stream Management,” supported by the Binny Bansal Institute for Inventing the Future Grant.
The role will focus on developing and integrating hydrological, water-quality, geospatial, and modelling datasets into a comprehensive framework for urban stream management.
The Research Associate will work on quantitative analysis and modelling of urban streams, integrate data from multiple sources, and translate research findings into practical outputs such as decision-support maps, dashboards, reports, and publications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the integration of datasets from different project components, including hydrological and water-quality observations.
- Design and strengthen quantitative models for urban streams using streamflow, water-level, rainfall, and water-quality data.
- Integrate catchment topology, drainage features, flow and water-quality data, and treatment strategies.
- Design workflows that combine field measurements, geospatial layers, and hydrological or statistical model outputs.
- Analyse hydrological and environmental datasets to identify relevant patterns and insights.
- Translate research findings into decision-support maps, dashboards, reports,
and scientific publications.
- Contribute to the development of an integrated framework for urban stream management.
- Collaborate with researchers and project team members across different components of the project.
Skills Required
- Experience with hydrological modelling, catchment analysis, or integrated water-systems research.
- Strong quantitative analysis skills, particularly with hydrological or environmental time-series data.
- Understanding of statistical analysis and uncertainty assessment.
- Experience with Python, R, MATLAB, or equivalent tools for data processing and analysis is desirable.
- Ability to develop reproducible data-processing and analytical workflows.
- Data visualisation skills with the ability to communicate technical findings effectively.
- Familiarity with sensors, data loggers, and field sampling methods.
- Strong scientific and technical writing skills.
- Good coordination and team collaboration abilities.
- Ability to communicate research findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Education & Qualification
- PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a specialisation in:
- Hydrological and Water Resources Engineering
- Urban Systems or a related field.
- Candidates should have relevant research experience in hydrology, water resources, urban water systems, or related areas.
What You Will Gain
- Chance to contribute to an interdisciplinary research project focused on urban stream management.
- Hands-on experience integrating hydrological, water-quality, geospatial, and modelling datasets.
- Exposure to field measurements, quantitative modelling, data analysis, and decision-support tools.
- Opportunity to contribute to research publications, reports, dashboards, and data-driven management frameworks.
- Collaboration with researchers working on real-world water and urban systems challenges at Plaksha University.
