Our client is seeking an experienced Automotive Diagnostic Specialist (Hybrid & EV) with strong hands-on expertise in automotive diagnostics and vehicle battery systems. This is a specialised technical role for an automotive professional who can confidently diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair hybrid and electric vehicles, with particular strength in identifying faults within electrical, electronic, battery, and high-voltage systems.

The ideal candidate will have practical experience using advanced automotive diagnostic equipment, interpreting diagnostic results, and working with hybrid and EV battery systems . Solid knowledge of electric drivetrains, charging systems, inverters, vehicle electronics, and high-voltage safety will also be highly valued.

As hybrid and EV technology continues to develop, the ideal candidate should be technically curious, adaptable, and committed to keeping their skills and knowledge up to date.

Schedule

- Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM NZT, with 1 hour unpaid break (40 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

- Automotive Diagnostics: Perform advanced diagnostics on hybrid and electric vehicles using professional scanners and manufacturer-specific equipment to accurately identify, test, and document mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults across battery, drivetrain, and charging systems.
- Battery Systems & High-Voltage Components: Inspect, test, diagnose, and repair hybrid and EV battery systems, high-voltage battery packs, and Battery Management Systems (BMS), adhering strictly to high-voltage safety procedures.
- Hybrid & EV Servicing and Repairs: Execute scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, and component repairs for electric drivetrains, electric motors, inverters, converters, and charging systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Technical & Workshop Support: Interpret wiring diagrams and technical manuals, assist with troubleshooting complex vehicle electronics,



maintain diagnostic equipment and records, and collaborate with team members while staying updated on emerging EV technologies.

Requirements

- 3+ years of hands-on automotive technician experience, with demonstrated experience working on hybrid and/or electric vehicles.
- Strong practical experience in automotive diagnostics, fault finding, and working with vehicle battery systems (particularly hybrid or EV high-voltage batteries).
- Comprehensive understanding of hybrid/EV systems, high-voltage battery systems, BMS, electric drivetrains, charging systems, and vehicle electrical/electronic systems.
- Proficiency with professional automotive diagnostic scanners, testing equipment, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Solid understanding of high-voltage safety procedures and strong mechanical/electrical troubleshooting skills.

Qualifications

- High-voltage electrical safety certification or EV-specific technical training.
- Extensive experience diagnosing EV and hybrid battery faults, battery testing, health assessments, or BMS.
- Experience with major hybrid/EV brands (e.g., Tesla, BYD, Toyota Hybrid, Hyundai, Kia, MG) and manufacturer-specific diagnostic software.
- Familiarity with CAN bus systems, EV charging infrastructure, electric motors, inverters, and DC-DC converters.
