About the Role
SAINI ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING PRIVATE LIMITED is looking for a Purchase Executive – Vendor Development to strengthen our Purchase and New Product Development (NPD) procurement activities.
The primary responsibility of this role will be to understand the exact technical and commercial requirements received from the NPD team, identify suitable suppliers, develop current vendors, obtain quotations, evaluate capabilities, and successfully outsource the required components/materials within the required quality, cost and delivery parameters.
The candidate should have good exposure to vendor development, machining component sourcing, special-grade raw materials and brought-out items, along with a sound understanding of routine Purchase activities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Vendor Development & NPD Procurement
Study purchase requirements, drawings, specifications, BOMs and technical details received from the NPD/Engineering team. Understand the exact requirement, material grade, manufacturing process, dimensional/quality requirements and applicable standards before initiating sourcing.
Identify and develop new and technically capable vendors based on the specific requirement.
Source vendors for
High-precision machining components
CNC/VMC/HMC machined components
Special-grade steel and aluminium raw materials
Bought-out/standard items
Special-purpose components and assemblies
Conduct supplier identification through market research, supplier databases, references, exhibitions and other relevant sources.
Evaluate supplier capabilities, infrastructure, machinery, quality systems, capacity and previous experience.
Coordinate with NPD/Engineering and Quality teams for technical evaluation and vendor approval.
Float RFQs, obtain quotations and conduct technical and commercial comparison.
Negotiate prices, payment terms, lead time, MOQ and other commercial terms.
Support development of prototypes, samples and first-off components.
Follow up with vendors for timely submission of samples and development parts.
Coordinate with Quality/NPD for inspection, trials and approval of developed components.
Develop alternate sources for critical and single-source components.
1. Machining & Outsourcing Procurement
Understand engineering drawings, tolerances, materials, surface finish and manufacturing requirements for precision machined components. Identify suitable machining vendors based on required processes such as CNC turning, VMC, HMC, grinding, milling, fabrication and other specialised processes.
Evaluate vendor manufacturing capabilities against component requirements.
Work with vendors to optimise cost, process and manufacturability.
Maintain a database of approved and potential machining suppliers.
1. Standard Purchase Activities
Process purchase requisitions and convert approved requirements into RFQs/POs. Obtain and analyse vendor quotations and prepare comparative statements.
Negotiate commercial terms and release purchase orders as per company procedures.
Ensure timely delivery of materials and components.
Regularly follow up with suppliers for order status, dispatch and delivery.
Coordinate with Stores, Quality, Production, Planning, Engineering and Accounts for smooth Procure-to-Pay (P2P) activities.
Monitor open POs and ensure timely closure of pending purchase requirements.
Resolve issues related to price, quality, quantity, delivery and documentation in coordination with vendors and internal departments.
Maintain purchase records, vendor documentation and procurement MIS.
1. Vendor Performance & Relationship Management
Monitor vendor performance with respect to Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD). Develop long-term relationships with reliable suppliers.
Conduct vendor visits when required for capability assessment and development.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction, alternate sourcing and supply-chain improvement.
Support corrective and preventive actions for recurring supplier issues.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
2–5 years of experience in Purchase, Procurement, Vendor Development or NPD sourcing, preferably in an engineering/manufacturing industry.
Strong understanding of machining processes and engineering components.
Ability to understand engineering drawings, material specifications, tolerances and technical requirements.
Good knowledge of steel and aluminium grades and their procurement.
Experience in identifying and developing new suppliers.
Good negotiation and commercial evaluation skills.
Strong follow-up and vendor management skills.
Good communication and coordination skills.
Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and MS Excel.
Ability to work closely with NPD, Engineering, Quality, Production and Planning teams.
