1. ABOUT PUMP ACADEMY PRIVATE LIMITED
Pump Academy Private Limited (PAPL) is a DPIIT recognised deep tech IIoT startup headquartered in Bengaluru. We develop and deploy iPUMPNET, a patented AI and ML powered asset intelligence platform for pumping stations and water infrastructure, with three granted Indian patents and over two hundred live deployments across India. We work with water authorities, engineering consultants, power plants, and infrastructure operators to predict pump failures before they cause unplanned downtime and operational loss.
2. POSITION OVERVIEW
We are hiring a full-time Pump Diagnostics and Condition Monitoring Engineer to establish and lead our in-house field diagnostics capability for detecting cavitation, recirculation, and other failure modes in rotating machinery. This role is critical to expanding iPUMPNET into power generation and large-scale pumping installations where real time fault detection and predictive maintenance are mission critical. You will be responsible for field diagnostic deployments, sensor integration, data interpretation, technical reporting to customers, and coordination with equipment vendors.
3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Diagnostics and Equipment Operation
- Conduct on site pump cavitation, recirculation, and bearing fault diagnostics using ultrasonic detection equipment (SDT270/SDT340), high frequency accelerometers, and broadband vibration analysis tools at customer installations.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot diagnostic equipment including ultrasonic detectors, ICP accelerometers, data acquisition hardware, and analysis software in field environments.
- Deploy non-invasive and invasive sensor techniques on operating equipment without disrupting customer operations; understand magnetic mounting, stud mounting, and contact probe placement for optimal signal capture.
Data Analysis and Technical Interpretation
- Analyze time waveform and frequency spectrum data from vibration sensors to distinguish cavitation signatures (broadband random noise), recirculation pulsations (discrete peaks at vane pass frequency), bearing defects, and mechanical looseness.
- Interpret acoustic emission and ultrasonic signals from pump discharge, suction, and bearing regions to assess fault severity and rate of progression.
- Perform trending analysis on repeated measurements to track fault development over weeks and months, supporting predictive maintenance scheduling.
Customer Engagement and Reporting
- Provide clear, technical but accessible diagnostic findings to customer stakeholders (plant operators, maintenance engineers, consulting engineers) in real time on site and in written reports.
- Recommend specific remedial actions (inlet pressure adjustment,
flow rate changes, bearing replacement timing, design modifications) based on diagnostic findings and industry best practice.
- Build and maintain customer relationships; serve as the technical authority for PAPL's diagnostics services with water utilities, power plants, and consulting firms.
Sensor Integration and Platform Development
- Work closely with PAPL's iPUMPNET platform team to integrate ultrasonic, accelerometer, and fluid borne noise data streams into the cloud analytics engine.
- Provide field derived insights on sensor placement, signal quality, sampling rates, and data transmission that inform hardware and firmware design for iPUMPNET modules.
- Validate algorithm performance in the field; confirm that fault detection and alert thresholds developed in the lab perform as intended on real customer pumps.
Field Visits, Vibration Diagnostics and Safety Compliance
- Conduct vibration data collection as per company requirements and planned maintenance schedules.
- Perform impeller dynamic balancing as per company standards and requirements.
- Perform laser shaft alignment for rotating equipment as per company requirements and procedures.
- Visit customer sites as per the planned maintenance schedule and complete assigned field activities within the specified timeline.
- Coordinate with customer representatives before starting field activities and ensure proper communication throughout the work.
- Follow all company and customer safety procedures while carrying out field activities at customer sites.
- Ensure accurate data collection, proper documentation, and timely submission of field reports to the concerned team.
4. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline; or equivalent practical experience in rotating machinery condition monitoring.
- More than 5 years of hands-on experience with vibration analysis, condition monitoring, or predictive maintenance on boiler feed pumps, motors, compressors, or similar rotating equipment.
- Demonstrated proficiency with ultrasonic detection or acoustic emission equipment; experience with SDT ultrasound detectors, Flir AcoustiCam, or equivalent tools is a significant advantage.
- Strong working knowledge of vibration spectrum analysis, time waveform interpretation,
and envelope analysis; comfort with FFT, frequency response functions, and signal filtering concepts.
- Field experience diagnosing pump cavitation, recirculation, bearing wear, or mechanical looseness in operating installations.
- Understanding of pump hydraulics: NPSH, inlet pressure, suction conditions, discharge backpressure, and how these factors affect cavitation onset and risk.
- Proficiency with data acquisition hardware and software (NI DAQ, LMS, Siemens Simcenter or equivalent).
- Ability to work independently in customer environments; comfortable with travel to multiple sites across India as required.
- Excellent technical communication skills; ability to explain diagnostic findings clearly to non-specialist stakeholders.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel by road and air to customer sites across India.
5. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- ISO 20816 (ISO 10816 legacy) or ISO 13373-1 certification in vibration analysis and condition monitoring.
- Experience with ICP (Integrated Circuit Piezoelectric) accelerometers and high frequency sensor systems.
- Background in power generation, water utilities, or large-scale pumping infrastructure.
- Experience with predictive maintenance programs in industrial settings.
6. WHAT WE OFFER
- More than best industry standard salary and benefits package commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- Opportunity to establish a new technical function at a rapidly growing IIoT startup with proven market traction.
- Direct involvement in cutting edge fault detection and predictive maintenance technology.
- Training and certification support; we will invest in your career development and credentials.
- Access to premium diagnostic equipment; you will work with industry leading tools (SDT ultrasonic detectors, PCB Piezotronics sensors, advanced data acquisition systems).
- Exposure to diverse customer environments across India's water, power, and industrial sectors.
- Collaborative culture; you will work alongside software engineers, data scientists, and product managers building the next generation of asset intelligence platforms.
7. HOW TO APPLY
- Submit your resume, a cover letter outlining your relevant experience in pump diagnostics and condition monitoring, and any certifications (ISO 20816, ISO 13373-1, etc.) to
