Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Progress OpenEdge RDBMS DBA to manage, maintain, optimize,secure, and support enterprise-wide Progress OpenEdge database environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring database availability, performance, integrity, backup and recovery, disaster recovery readiness, version upgrades, and platform migrations while supporting business-critical Progress 4GL/ABL applications.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration

- Install, configure, monitor, and maintain Progress OpenEdge databases across Development,

QA, UAT, and Production environments.
- Manage database startup/shutdown parameters, broker configurations, storage areas,

extents, and database structures.
- Perform routine database maintenance and health checks.
- Manage database users, permissions, and security settings.

Performance Monitoring & Optimization
- Monitor database performance using PROMON, PROUTIL, OpenEdge Management, and related diagnostic tools.
- Perform database tuning and optimization of:

- Buffer pools
- Lock tables
- Indexes
- I/O utilization
- Query performance
- Database fragmentation

• Troubleshoot blocking, deadlocks, and slow-running database processes. Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery
- Design and implement backup and recovery strategies using PROBKUP and PROREST.
- Manage Before Image (BI) and After Image (AI) files.
- Perform database restores and disaster recovery testing.
- Create and maintain disaster recovery procedures and operational runbooks.
- Ensure compliance with RPO/RTO objectives.

Database Migration & Version Upgrades
- Plan and execute Progress OpenEdge version upgrades (10.x, 11.x, 12.x and above).
- Perform impact assessments and compatibility analysis before upgrades.
- Execute database conversions, dump/load operations, schema migrations, and production cutovers.
- Support migration of Classic AppServer environments to PASOE.
- Develop rollback and contingency plans for upgrade activities.
- Validate application compatibility post-upgrade.




- Perform post-upgrade performance tuning and stabilization.
- Support cross-platform migrations (Windows/Linux/AWS/Azure).
- Participate in cloud migration and modernization initiatives.

High Availability & Replication
- Configure and maintain OpenEdge Replication environments.
- Support High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
- Perform failover and recovery testing.
- Ensure business continuity for mission-critical applications.

Application Support

- Work closely with Progress 4GL/ABL development teams.
- Support AppServer, WebSpeed, and PASOE environments.
- Assist development teams with schema modifications and performance issues.
- Troubleshoot production incidents and database-related application issues.

Security & Compliance
- Implement database security controls and auditing.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards.
- Support encryption, access management, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct database audits and vulnerability assessments.

Documentation & Change Management
- Maintain database architecture documents and operational procedures.
- Support release management and change control processes.
- Create SOPs, upgrade runbooks, DR procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Participate in on-call support and production deployments.

Required Technical Skills

Mandatory

• 5+ years of Progress OpenEdge DBA experience.

- Solid experience with:

- Progress OpenEdge RDBMS
- Progress 4GL / ABL
- PROMON
- PROUTIL
- PROBKUP
- PROREST

• Database Performance Tuning.
- Backup, Recovery, and Disaster Recovery.
- BI/AI Management.
- OpenEdge Administration on Linux/Unix and/or Windows.
- Production Support and Incident Management.
- SQL-92, ODBC, and JDBC connectivity experience.

Preferred Skills

- OpenEdge 11.x and 12.x Administration.
