Job Summary:

The Pre-editor is responsible for preparing submitted manuscripts for the editorial and production process. This includes ensuring adherence to journal guidelines, formatting consistency, and completeness of submission, prior to copyediting stage.

Key Responsibilities:

- Perform initial quality checks on submitted manuscripts for completeness and compliance with journal guidelines.
- Ensure correct formatting of text, references, figures, tables, and supplementary materials.
- Standardize manuscript structure (e.g., title page, abstract, headings, references).
- Verify that all required sections (conflict of interest, funding, acknowledgements, etc.) are present.
- Check references for basic accuracy, style, and completeness (without deep validation).
- Apply journal-specific style rules and templates.
- Identify and correct basic grammatical, typographical, and formatting errors.
- Ensure consistency in terminology, units, and nomenclature.




- Communicate with editors or project managers regarding queries or missing elements.
- Prepare files for smooth transition to copyediting and typesetting stages.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

- Bachelors or Masters degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with scientific manuscript structure and publishing workflows.
- Basic knowledge of referencing styles
- Ability to follow detailed guidelines and work with consistency.
- Proficiency in MS Word and handling tracked changes.

Preferred Skills:

- Prior experience in STM (Scientific, Technical, Medical) publishing.
- Familiarity with XML workflows or manuscript submission systems.
- Experience with style guides or publisher-specific requirements.
