Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Payroll Administrator / Assistant Manager – UK Payroll with 2–4+ years of UK payroll experience and exposure to team management. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, RTI filings, pension compliance, and payroll processing, along with excellent English communication and client-handling skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end UK payroll processing for multiple clients.
- Ensure timely and accurate RTI filings and pension compliance.
- Maintain payroll calendars, controls, checklists, and deadlines.
- Monitor payroll exceptions, investigate discrepancies, and resolve variances.
- Handle client communication, payroll queries, and change requests.
- Manage payroll activities during monthly, quarterly, and annual cyclical peaks.
- Guide, review, and support a small payroll team.
- Prepare and maintain SOPs, process documentation, and training materials.
- Ensure payroll activities comply with applicable UK payroll legislation and best practices.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 2–4+ years of hands-on UK Payroll experience.
- Exposure to team management / team handling.
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
- Knowledge of RTI, pension schemes,
payroll controls, and compliance.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Strong client and stakeholder management skills.
- Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Familiarity with leading UK payroll systems and portals.
- Candidates from UK accounting, payroll outsourcing, or accounting practice backgrounds will be preferred.
