Job Summary

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Fresher to join our Paint & Blast / Surface Preparation team in shipbuilding and ship repair activities. The candidate will be responsible for assisting in planning, supervising, monitoring, and documenting blasting and painting activities on vessels and ship structures.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist in planning and execution of surface preparation, abrasive blasting and painting activities.

- Monitor blasting and painting works as per approved specifications, drawings, and project requirements.

- Understand and monitor surface preparation standards, including rust removal, cleanliness and surface profile.

- Assist in checking paint mixing, thinning, application methods and coating sequence as per manufacturer recommendations.

- Monitor environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, dew point and surface temperature before and during painting.

- Assist in inspection of DFT (Dry Film Thickness) and WFT where applicable.

- Coordinate with Production, QA/QC and Planning teams for timely completion of paint and blast activities.

- Maintain daily work progress reports, inspection records and material consumption records.

- Ensure proper handling, storage and usage of paints, thinners and blasting materials.

- Monitor manpower, tools, equipment and work-front availability.

- Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, including PPE, ventilation, confined-space precautions and safe handling of blasting/painting equipment.

- Identify and report surface defects, coating defects,



contamination and other quality issues to the concerned supervisor/engineer.

- Assist in coordinating with Painting Supervisors, Blasters, Painters and QA/QC Inspectors.

- Support project documentation and preparation of work completion reports.

Technical Knowledge Preferred The candidate should have basic knowledge of:

- Abrasive blasting and surface preparation

- Painting and coating systems

- Primer, intermediate and topcoat application

- DFT/WFT measurement

- Surface profile and surface cleanliness

- Paint mixing and application procedures

- Basic corrosion and corrosion protection concepts

- Basic understanding of ISO / SSPC / NACE / IMO coating requirements

- Reading basic engineering drawings and technical specifications

Desired Skills

- Good communication and coordination skills

- Willingness to work at shipyard/vessel sites

- Ability to work in challenging marine and outdoor environments

- Basic knowledge of MS Office and report preparation

- Good observation and problem-solving skills

- Willingness to learn ship-repair and coating practices

- Ability to work in a team and coordinate with multiple departments

Eligibility

- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering – Fresher

- Candidates with internship/training exposure in shipbuilding, ship repair, fabrication, painting or coating will have an added advantage.

- Candidates willing to work in Kochi/Vypin shipyard setting are preferred.

Pay: ₹16,000.00 - ₹24,000.00 per month
