We have urgent opening for Sr. Manager - Horticulture Position in Mumbai with a real estate developer.

Role & responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior Horticulturist with 1520 years of hands-on and managerial experience in horticulture, landscape development, and maintenance of large-scale mega landscape project, residential, commercial, hospitality, township, or mixed-use developments.

The role will be responsible for the overall planning, development, maintenance, and enhancement of landscaped areas across the Group’s properties. The incumbent will lead horticulture operations, manage internal teams and external landscape agencies, ensure high standards of landscape aesthetics and plant health, and drive sustainable and cost-effective horticulture practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Landscape & Horticulture Management

- Develop and implement horticulture and landscape maintenance strategies for large-scale properties.
- Oversee maintenance of lawns, ornamental plants, trees, shrubs, hedges, flower beds, vertical gardens and other landscaped areas.
- Ensure healthy plant growth through appropriate irrigation, fertilization, pruning, pest and disease management.
- Develop seasonal plantation and floral display plans.
- Conduct regular landscape inspections and identify areas requiring improvement or rejuvenation.
- Maintain high standards of visual appearance, cleanliness and landscape quality across all properties.

1. Landscape Development & Projects

- Review landscape designs, planting plans, BOQs and technical specifications for new developments and refurbishment projects.
- Provide technical inputs on plant selection, soil preparation, irrigation systems and landscape materials.
- Coordinate with architects, landscape consultants, project teams and contractors.
- Monitor execution of landscape projects to ensure adherence to approved designs, specifications, quality and timelines.
- Evaluate existing landscapes and recommend redevelopment or enhancement opportunities.

1. Irrigation & Water Management

- Plan and monitor efficient irrigation systems including drip and sprinkler systems.
- Optimize water consumption through automation, rainwater harvesting and treated-water utilization wherever feasible.
- Monitor irrigation schedules and ensure adequate water availability without over-irrigation.




- Identify opportunities for water conservation and reduction of operational costs.

1. Plant Health & Sustainability

- Establish preventive programs for pests, diseases, weeds and plant mortality.
- Ensure appropriate and responsible use of fertilizers, pesticides and plant-growth products.
- Promote organic and environmentally responsible horticulture practices.
- Introduce native, drought-tolerant and low-maintenance plant species where appropriate.
- Support sustainability initiatives including composting, green waste management, biodiversity enhancement and reduction of chemical usage.

1. Team & Vendor Management

- Lead and develop horticulture teams comprising supervisors, gardeners, technicians and other operational personnel.
- Plan manpower deployment, daily activities and maintenance schedules.
- Manage external horticulture and landscape contractors.
- Monitor contractor performance against agreed SLAs/KPIs.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and ensure adherence to safety and operational standards.
- Train teams in modern horticulture techniques, equipment usage and safe working practices.

1. Budget & Cost Management

- Prepare annual horticulture maintenance budgets and project estimates.
- Monitor expenditure against approved budgets.
- Control costs through efficient manpower planning, water management, procurement and preventive maintenance.
- Evaluate vendors, nurseries and suppliers for quality and commercial competitiveness.
- Review and approve material requirements and consumption within delegated authority.

1. Compliance, Safety & Reporting

- Ensure compliance with applicable environmental, safety and operational requirements.
- Implement secure practices for working at height, tree pruning, machinery operation, pesticide application and other horticulture activities.
- Maintain records of plant inventories, maintenance schedules, chemical applications, irrigation systems and contractor performance.




- Prepare periodic MIS and management reports covering landscape condition, manpower, costs, projects and key horticulture KPIs.

Candidate Profile

Education

- Bachelor’s (4 year) in Horticulture, Agriculture, Landscape Horticulture, Floriculture or a related discipline.

Experience:
- 15–20 years of relevant experience in horticulture and landscape management.
- Experience managing mega project, large commercial, residential, hospitality, township, campus or mixed-use developments preferred.
- Experience managing multiple sites and large horticulture teams will be an advantage.
- Strong exposure to landscape contractors, consultants, nurseries and irrigation systems.
