Technical Lead – Hands-on Engineering

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Open Source Tech Lead who can lead technical development while remaining actively involved in coding, architecture, troubleshooting, and code reviews.

The ideal candidate should have strong experience with the JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem

, particularly Node.js, NestJS, and MongoDB

, along with practical experience building and deploying applications on AWS

.

You will work closely with the engineering team to make technical decisions, solve complex problems, establish engineering best practices, and ensure applications are secure, scalable, and production-ready.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead technical design and development while remaining hands-on with coding .

- Design and develop scalable backend applications using Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS .

- Work extensively with MongoDB , including schema design, indexing, query optimization, and performance tuning.

- Define and maintain CI/CD pipelines and development workflows.
- Design, deploy, and troubleshoot applications on AWS .

- Establish and enforce application security guardrails , secure coding practices, authentication/authorization, secrets management, and dependency security.

- Conduct code reviews and help the team improve code quality and engineering practices.
- Troubleshoot complex technical and production issues and drive problems to resolution.
- Make pragmatic architectural decisions and document technical approaches where required.





- Mentor developers and provide technical guidance without becoming disconnected from hands-on development.
- Collaborate effectively with product, engineering, and other stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience

- 5+ years of professional software development experience .

- Strong hands-on experience with:

- JavaScript / TypeScript
- Node.js

- NestJS

- MongoDB
- REST APIs / backend development
- Git and modern software development practices
- Practical experience with AWS services and cloud-based application deployment.
- Experience setting up or working with CI/CD pipelines .

- Good understanding of application security and security guardrails .

- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to understand existing open-source technologies and make appropriate technical decisions around them.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical problems.

Good to Have

- Previous experience developing healthcare applications or healthcare technology platforms .

- Understanding of HIPAA and healthcare application security .

- Experience with FHIR, HL7, or healthcare interoperability .

- Experience with Docker and containerized deployments.
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring, logging, and performance optimization.
- Contributions to or experience working with open-source projects .
