1: CCTV Network Engineer (Edge AI Video Analytics)
Role Title: CCTV Network Engineer — Edge AI Video Analytics
Experience Level: 2–3 Years
Location: Mysuru, Karnataka (with 25–40% domestic site travel)
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced CCTV Network Engineer to design, deploy, and maintain robust, high-throughput network infrastructures optimized for real-time edge AI video analytics. In this role, you will be the bridge between physical IP video surveillance systems and our edge compute platform (CK-AI Box), which runs continuous multi-stream deep learning models (YOLO object detection, tracking, ANPR, and facial analytics).
Unlike traditional CCTV setups where delayed frames or packet loss simply result in minor recording artifacts, edge computer vision requires deterministic, low-latency, and uncorrupted stream ingestion. You will be responsible for end-to-end network reliability: designing isolated camera VLANs, sizing PoE budgets, tuning camera video streams, deploying secure Fast Reverse Proxy (FRP) tunnels, and providing client-facing technical commissioning at customer premises across enterprise, retail, transportation, and industrial sectors.
Key Responsibilities
1. Network Design, Subnetting & Bandwidth Engineering
Design and configure high-performance Local Area Networks (LANs) tailored specifically for continuous multi-camera IP video streaming. Plan network topology for deployments ranging from 16 to 64+ cameras per site, ensuring adequate switch backplane throughput and zero packet drop under continuous load.
Configure dual-NIC network isolation on CK-AI Box edge appliances:
NIC 1 (Ingestion Plane): Dedicated, unrouted private network for camera RTSP packet acquisition.
NIC 2 (Management Plane): Dedicated interface connected to client intranet/internet for cloud telemetry, alerts, and remote management.
Implement 802.1Q VLAN segmentation to strictly separate surveillance video feeds, management traffic, and client corporate networks.
Configure Quality of Service (QoS) and Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) traffic marking to prioritize real-time video packets over non-critical network traffic.
Establish structured IPv4 subnetting schemes (VLSM) and assign fixed static IP pools to eliminate DHCP lease renewals and IP conflict issues.
1. IP Camera Integration & Video Stream Optimization
Discover, provision, and configure IP cameras across various manufacturers, including Hikvision, Dahua, CP Plus, Axis Communications, Vivotek, Bosch, and Hanwha Techwin. Perform camera discovery and configuration using ONVIF profiles (Profile S, Profile T, Profile G, and Profile M).
Extract, construct,
and validate RTSP stream URLs across both standard and vendor-proprietary path structures.
Configure dual-stream camera profiles to balance analytical accuracy with hardware computational limits:
Main Stream: High resolution (1080p to 4K) at high bitrate for local storage and forensic review.
Sub-Stream: Optimized resolution (640x360 to 720p) at 15–25 FPS with optimized bitrates (512–1536 kbps) dedicated to real-time edge AI model inference.
Calibrate optical and sensor parameters to optimize video for computer vision algorithms:
Adjust shutter speed and exposure to eliminate motion blur on fast-moving targets.
Tune Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), Backlight Compensation (BLC), and 3D Digital Noise Reduction (3D-DNR).
Configure day/night infrared (IR) switching thresholds to avoid false alerts caused by sensor noise in low-light environments.
1. Network Hardware & Power Management
Deploy and manage Layer 2 and Layer 3 managed switches, secure industrial routers, and cellular gateways. Calculate PoE/PoE+ power budgets under IEEE standards: 802.3af (up to 15.4W), 802.3at (up to 30W), and 802.3bt (up to 60W/90W for PTZ cameras with heaters/wipers).
Monitor per-port power draws, cable run lengths, and continuous voltage drops over CAT6/CAT6A copper wiring.
Configure managed switch features including Port Security (MAC binding), Link Aggregation (LACP) for high-bandwidth uplinks, and Spanning Tree Protocols (RSTP/MSTP) to prevent switching loops.
Set up port mirroring (SPAN/RSPAN) sessions on switches to enable live stream packet capture and protocol analysis.
1. Security, Firewalls & Remote Access Architecture
Deploy and configure Fast Reverse Proxy (FRP) client daemons (frpc) on edge appliances, mapping secure outbound reverse tunnels to central management servers (frps) without requiring inbound open router ports. Configure host-based firewalls (ufw, iptables) on Linux edge systems, establishing a default-deny inbound posture.
Implement SSH key authentication (Ed25519/RSA 4096-bit), disable password logins, configure custom SSH ports, and integrate fail2ban for automated brute-force defense.
Set up secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) tunnels using WireGuard or OpenVPN for direct site-to-site connectivity.
1. Network Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
Diagnose real-time stream anomalies, frame drops, and latency issues using diagnostic tools: ping, traceroute, nmap, netstat/ss, iperf3, tcpdump,
and Wireshark. Analyze RTSP signaling flows (OPTIONS, DESCRIBE, SETUP, PLAY) and Session Description Protocol (SDP) payloads to resolve authentication failures and codec mismatches.
Troubleshoot H.264/H.265 compression issues, frame rate drops, packet reordering, and keyframe (GOP) interval mismatches that interrupt AI inference pipelines.
1. Client Handover, Site Surveys & Documentation
Conduct comprehensive pre-installation site surveys: assess existing CCTV cable infrastructure, switch capacity, rack space, power stability, and camera viewing angles. Lead on-site physical commissioning, network configuration, and testing at client sites.
Provide technical walkthroughs and basic operational training to client IT and security personnel.
Maintain complete documentation for every site: network topology diagrams, IP and MAC address allocations, camera credentials, FRP port mappings, and asset serial logs.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication (ECE), or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent practical field experience).
Certifications: CCNA (Routing & Switching / Enterprise) or CompTIA Network+ certification strongly preferred.
Networking Protocols: In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, DHCP, DNS, NAT, 802.1Q VLANs, QoS/DSCP, LACP, and static/dynamic routing.
Surveillance Standards: Hands-on experience with ONVIF Profiles (S, T, G), RTSP streaming, H.264, H.265, and H.265+ codecs.
Operating Systems: Linux administration skills (Ubuntu Server / Debian), including static networking (netplan, iproute2), systemd service management, and shell scripting.
Hardware Ecosystems: Familiarity with commercial and industrial IP cameras (Hikvision, Dahua, CP Plus, Axis, Vivotek) and managed switches (Cisco, Aruba, Moxa, Ubiquiti, TP-Link Omada).
Security & Tunnels: Working knowledge of FRP tunneling, WireGuard/OpenVPN, SSH key management, and Linux firewall configurations (ufw).
Soft Skills: Qualified client-facing demeanor, clear written and verbal technical communication, methodical troubleshooting discipline, and willingness to travel (25–40% across India).
