About the role

We are looking for a Medical records & billing analyst with practical experience reading and interpreting medical documentation and billing records from the United States and/or Germany.

Healthcare billing remains surprisingly manual. A single patient case can generate hundreds of pages of documentation from hospitals, clinics, specialists, laboratories, imaging providers and other healthcare organizations. Much of this information still arrives as PDFs, scans, faxes or paper documents rather than through clean, structured data interfaces.

Large billing operations may employ hundreds of people to manually review these documents, identify the relevant medical and financial information, classify it and transform it into structured billing data.

We believe this workflow is particularly well suited to AI-assisted automation , but building reliable automation requires people who understand what the documents actually mean.

This role sits at the intersection of medical documentation, billing operations, data quality and AI .

What you would do

You will work with medical records and billing documentation from healthcare providers in the United States and Germany , including hospitals, clinics, physicians and specialists.

Your responsibilities will include

- Review large medical records, including cases containing hundreds of pages of clinical and billing documentation.
- Read and interpret hospital bills, physician bills, treatment records, discharge documentation, diagnostic reports and related medical documentation.
- Identify treatments, procedures, diagnoses, services, providers, dates, charges and other relevant information contained across multiple documents.
- Understand how information in clinical documentation relates to the corresponding billing information.
- Convert unstructured information from PDFs, scans and other documents into structured data.
- Detect missing information, inconsistencies, duplicate entries and potential billing discrepancies.
- Compare medical records and invoices to determine whether the documentation supports the billed services.
- Review data extracted automatically by AI systems and determine whether the results are correct.
- Identify recurring document structures and patterns that can be automated.
- Define rules,



examples and edge cases that help our technical team improve document-processing and AI models.
- Create and maintain structured reference examples and validation datasets.
- Work with developers and AI specialists to test new extraction and classification workflows.
- Investigate cases where automated processing fails and explain why.
- Help design quality-control processes that allow AI-assisted workflows to operate reliably at scale.

US medical billing knowledge For US documentation, relevant experience may include working with areas such as:

- Hospital and physician billing
- Itemized medical bills
- Explanation of Benefits documentation
- Medical coding and claims documentation
- ICD diagnosis information
- CPT and HCPCS procedure information
- Facility and professional charges
- Provider documentation
- Insurance claims and billing workflows

You do not necessarily need to be a certified medical coder, but you should be comfortable navigating complex medical and billing records and understanding how the different documents relate to one another. German medical billing knowledge For German documentation, relevant experience may include:

- Krankenhausrechnungen

- Ambulante und stationäre Behandlungsunterlagen
- Entlassungsberichte
- Leistungsnachweise
- Diagnosen und Prozeduren
- GOÄ / GOZ billing
- EBM-related documentation

- Private and statutory healthcare billing processes

Experience does not need to cover every billing system. Deep practical knowledge of either the German or US healthcare billing environment is valuable.

- Understand that medical documentation is often incomplete, inconsistent or poorly structured.
- Be comfortable making structured decisions based on defined rules.
- Be able to explain why a particular extraction or classification is correct or incorrect.
- Be interested in technology and AI.
- Be comfortable working closely with technical teams.
- Have strong written English and/or German skills.

- Reviewing medical records for billing companies

- Coding quality assurance
- Claims review
- Insurance or reimbursement analysis
- Medical-legal record review
- Training or supervising medical billing teams
- Building SOPs for medical-document processing
- Working with OCR, document-processing or AI-assisted healthcare software

The opportunity This is not simply a role for manually processing medical bills.

The objective is to take workflows that today require large teams of people reading documents page by page and determine how they can be transformed into a combination of:

AI extraction → automated classification → structured validation → human review of exceptions The analyst plays a critical role in that process.

You bring the domain knowledge required to understand what the AI should extract, where mistakes typically occur, which decisions can be automated safely and where human judgment is still required.

Over time, the role can develop from reviewing individual cases into helping design the medical billing intelligence and quality-control systems that process them.
