About NITS Engineering
NITS Engineering is a biomedical technology company building the next generation of biomedical devices, in vitro disease models, and engineering systems for drug discovery, regenerative medicine, and diagnostics. We combine precision hardware engineering with biomedical research to build the tools that take science from the lab bench to real world application.
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing & Design Engineer with strong manufacturing expertise across the full production cycle, from engineering drawings and process selection through fabrication, inspection, assembly, troubleshooting, and cost optimization.
You will work on the mechanical systems of our 3D bioprinters, working closely with engineering teams and external manufacturing partners to ensure that components and assemblies can be fabricated accurately, efficiently, and consistently.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, materials, and manufacturing processes to produce mechanical components and assemblies.
- Coordinate with external vendors and fabrication partners for prototype and production components.
- Select appropriate manufacturing processes based on tolerance, material, geometry, quantity, lead time, and cost.
- Inspect fabricated components and assemblies for dimensional accuracy, fit, finish, and compliance with drawings.
- Identify and resolve manufacturing, assembly, alignment, and quality issues through measurement and root-cause analysis.
- Apply DFM/DFA principles to improve manufacturability, reliability, repeatability, and cost.
- Prepare and maintain manufacturing drawings, BOMs, specifications, GD&T;, and inspection documentation.
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for 3D printers and bioprinters, including motion systems, printheads, dispensing systems, build platforms, and fixtures.
- Build detailed CAD models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, and GD&T-compliant; documentation in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Creo.
- Support prototyping using 3D printing and other fabrication processes.
- Work with engineering teams to modify designs based on manufacturing and testing feedback.
- Support mechanical assembly, integration, and testing of 3D printer systems.
- Maintain manufacturing records, vendor documentation, inspection results, and controlled design revisions.
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
Experience
- 3–7 years of relevant experience in manufacturing engineering, mechanical manufacturing, machine building, precision engineering, prototyping, or hardware development.
- Demonstrated experience taking components from engineering drawings through fabrication, inspection, assembly, and testing.
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, turning, milling, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, or other precision fabrication methods.
- CAD: proficient in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, or others, including complex assemblies and production-ready drawings.
- GD&T;: working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 tolerancing and stack-up analysis.
- FEA/simulation: working knowledge of SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS Mechanical, or equivalent for structural and thermal analysis.
- Experience working with manufacturing vendors, machine shops, fabricators, or production teams is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Manufacturing: Practical understanding of machining, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, finishing processes, and their effect on tolerances, quality, lead time, and cost.
- Engineering Drawings & GD&T;: Ability to interpret and work with manufacturing drawings, dimensional tolerances, fits, and GD&T.;
- Inspection: Experience using measurement and inspection equipment such as vernier calipers, micrometers, gauges, height gauges, or CMMs.
- CAD: Proficiency in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, or equivalent for interpreting and modifying parts and assemblies.
- DFM/DFA: Ability to identify manufacturing constraints and improve designs for manufacturability and assembly.
- Materials:
Practical understanding of engineering materials and their selection for manufacturing and application requirements.
- Cost & Process Optimization: Ability to evaluate manufacturing options and identify opportunities to reduce cost, lead time, and process complexity.
- FEA: Basic working knowledge of FEA is desirable.
Preferred Background
Experience in one or more of the following will be advantageous: precision manufacturing, CNC machining, additive manufacturing, 3D printing, machine building, automation, robotics, medical devices, laboratory equipment, or R&D; hardware development.
What We Look For
We are looking for an engineer who can take responsibility for the manufacturing quality, cost, and reliability of physical hardware.
