About the Role

We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and distributed systems to support a high-impact Billing & Account Management platform.

This role is ideal for a mid-to-senior backend engineer who has experience building and maintaining production-grade, event-driven services and working with transactional financial or business-critical data.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance backend services using Java and Spring Boot 3 .
- Build and support scalable microservices in distributed environments .
- Develop event-driven services using AWS SQS, Apache Kafka, or RabbitMQ .
- Design reliable and idempotent event handlers .
- Work with JPA/Hibernate and Spring Data JPA for transactional data processing.
- Design and maintain database solutions using MySQL/AWS Aurora .
- Implement transactional consistency, optimistic locking, and production database migrations.
- Integrate backend services with external REST APIs and third-party platforms/SDKs .
- Develop unit and integration tests using JUnit 5 and Mockito .
- Contribute to Gradle multi-module builds and GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
- Monitor application health, metrics, and deployment quality using Datadog .
- Troubleshoot production issues and improve system reliability, resilience, and observability.
- Participate in safe deployments, canary releases, and production support.
- Use AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot or Claude responsibly to improve engineering productivity while maintaining code quality.

Required Qualifications

- 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience .




- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot 3 .
- Proven experience developing production microservices .
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architecture .
- Hands-on experience with at least one of:
- Apache Kafka
- AWS SQS
- RabbitMQ
- Experience designing idempotent event processing/handlers .
- Robust experience with JPA/Hibernate and Spring Data JPA .
- Production experience with MySQL or AWS Aurora .
- Understanding of transactions, optimistic locking, and database schema migrations .
- Experience with JUnit 5, Mockito, and integration testing .
- Experience with Gradle , including multi-module projects.
- Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD .
- Experience with Datadog metrics, monitoring, and alerts .
- Experience integrating applications with REST APIs or third-party SDKs .
- Strong problem-solving and production troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in Billing, Payments, Revenue Systems, or Financial Technology .
- Experience with GraphQL .
- Netflix DGS experience.
- Experience with DynamoDB and AWS SDK v2 .
- Experience with MongoDB / Spring Data MongoDB .
- Experience working with multiple datastores in a single architecture.
- Experience with Zuora or similar billing platforms.
- Experience with reliability engineering, canary deployments, and deployment quality gates.

Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate has built and supported production backend services that: Consume events → process them reliably/idempotently → persist transactional data → integrate with external platforms → pass automated tests → deploy through CI/CD → monitor through Datadog.
