Designation: IT Hardware Engineer

Department: Information Technology / IT Support

Experience: 2–3 Years

Reporting To: IT Manager / IT Head

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced IT Hardware Engineer responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and supporting the organization's computer hardware, network devices, peripherals and IT infrastructure. The candidate will provide timely technical support to users, ensure smooth functioning of IT equipment, manage hardware assets and coordinate with vendors for repairs and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Hardware Installation & Maintenance

- Install, configure and maintain desktop computers, laptops, printers, scanners and other IT peripherals.
- Assemble, upgrade and replace computer hardware components such as RAM, hard disks/SSDs, SMPS, motherboards and other components.
- Perform preventive maintenance of IT hardware and equipment.
- Diagnose hardware failures and perform necessary repairs or replacements.
- Maintain proper functioning of UPS and other supporting IT equipment.

1. Technical Troubleshooting & Support

- Provide first-level and second-level technical support to employees.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, operating system and peripheral-related issues.
- Troubleshoot system booting, performance, connectivity and device-driver issues.
- Resolve printer, scanner and other peripheral problems.
- Respond to user support requests within the defined response time.
- Escalate complex issues to the IT Manager or appropriate technical/vendor team.

1. Operating System & Software Support

- Install and configure Windows operating systems and required drivers.
- Perform system formatting, OS installation and system configuration when required.
- Install and configure approved applications and utilities.
- Troubleshoot basic software and compatibility issues.
- Ensure systems receive required updates and security patches as per IT policy.

1. Network & Connectivity Support

- Provide basic troubleshooting support for LAN, Wi-Fi and internet connectivity.
- Configure and troubleshoot network cables, switches and network ports.
- Assist in maintaining routers, switches, access points and other network devices.
- Identify network-related issues and coordinate with the network administrator/service provider.
- Maintain basic network documentation.

1. IT Asset Management

- Maintain an updated inventory of computers, laptops, printers, networking equipment and other IT assets.
- Record asset allocation, transfers,



repairs and replacements.
- Maintain hardware warranty and AMC details.
- Track hardware lifecycle and recommend replacement of obsolete or frequently failing equipment.
- Ensure proper tagging and identification of IT assets.

1. Printer & Peripheral Management

- Install and configure printers, scanners and other peripheral devices.
- Troubleshoot printer connectivity, driver and hardware issues.
- Monitor printer consumables such as toner and cartridges.
- Coordinate with vendors for printer servicing and repairs.
- Maintain records of printer maintenance and consumable requirements.

1. Data Backup & Security Support

- Assist in implementing organizational data backup procedures.
- Ensure users follow approved data-storage and backup practices.
- Support antivirus installation, updates and basic endpoint security requirements.
- Follow IT security policies and access-control procedures.
- Report suspected malware, unauthorized access or security incidents immediately to the IT Manager.

1. Vendor Coordination

- Coordinate with hardware, printer, networking and AMC vendors.
- Raise service requests for faulty equipment under warranty/AMC.
- Follow up on repairs and ensure timely resolution.
- Verify repaired/replaced equipment before returning it to users.
- Maintain vendor service records.

1. User Support & Training

- Provide technical assistance to employees in using IT systems and peripherals.
- Guide users on basic hardware troubleshooting and IT best practices.
- Assist recent employees with computer and peripheral setup.
- Provide basic awareness regarding cybersecurity, password safety and acceptable IT usage.

1. Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain records of hardware issues, service requests and resolutions.
- Prepare periodic reports on hardware maintenance and IT assets.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules.
- Document system configurations and equipment details.
- Maintain proper records of vendor visits, repairs and replacements.

Healthcare/Hospital IT Responsibilities For a hospital workplace, the IT Hardware Engineer may also be responsible for:




- Supporting computers and peripherals used in clinical and administrative departments.
- Providing hardware support for systems connected to hospital applications/HIS.
- Supporting computers and printers in OPD, IP, billing, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, MRD and other departments.
- Coordinating with application/software teams when hardware issues affect clinical systems.
- Responding promptly to hardware issues affecting patient-care operations.
- Supporting IT equipment used at nursing stations, reception, billing counters and clinical areas.
- Following hospital IT security, confidentiality and downtime procedures.

Qualifications
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Sc. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics or a related field.
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in IT hardware and technical support.

Required Technical Skills
- Desktop and laptop hardware troubleshooting.
- Windows OS installation and configuration.
- Printer and scanner troubleshooting.
- LAN and Wi-Fi troubleshooting.
- Basic knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP.
- Basic knowledge of switches, routers and network devices.
- Hardware component replacement and upgrades.
- Antivirus and endpoint-security basics.
- IT asset management.
- Remote support tools.
- Basic knowledge of backup procedures.

Preferred Skills
- Experience in a hospital/healthcare IT environment is an advantage.
- Knowledge of HIS/EMR systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of CCTV, biometric attendance systems and access-control systems is an added advantage.
- Experience with AMC and vendor coordination.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
