Hardware Engineer – Electrical/Electronics
Employment Type: Full-Time Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu
Qualification:
Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, or higher qualification in Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE), Mechatronics, Embedded Systems, or a related technical field.
Candidates with strong practical hands-on hardware experience will be preferred.
Job Role
As a Hardware Engineer, you will be responsible for building, assembling, integrating, testing, and troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems used in robotic and automation platforms.
This role is highly hands-on and involves working with battery systems, wiring harnesses, connectors, PCBs, sensors, controllers, power electronics, and other electrical hardware. You will also be involved in identifying suitable components, sourcing and procuring hardware, planning cable routing, and supporting prototype development and field trials.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable working directly on hardware, diagnosing electrical issues, soldering and assembling systems, and adapting quickly during prototype and field testing.
Eligibility Criteria
Strong hands-on knowledge of electronics and electrical hardware assembly.
Good experience in PCB soldering, connector crimping, wire termination, and cable preparation.
Practical experience in battery pack assembly, battery wiring, BMS integration, charging systems, and power distribution.
Understanding of Li-ion / LiFePO4 battery systems and safe handling practices.
Ability to read basic electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, pinouts, and datasheets.
Knowledge of electrical connectors, terminals, cable glands, fuses, relays, switches, contactors, and protection devices.
Experience selecting suitable wire gauges, connectors, terminals, and protection components based on voltage and current requirements.
Familiarity with multimeters, power supplies, soldering stations, crimping tools, continuity testers, and other electrical debugging equipment.
Basic knowledge of communication interfaces such as CAN,
UART, RS-485, I2C, SPI, and Ethernet is an advantage.
Good understanding of grounding, shielding, electrical noise, short-circuit protection, polarity protection, and proper wiring practices.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
Willingness to work on prototype systems and participate in outdoor / field testing.
Key Responsibilities
Assemble, wire, and integrate electrical and electronic systems for robotic and automation products.
Build and maintain battery packs, power distribution systems, BMS wiring, charging circuits, and protection systems.
Perform PCB soldering, component replacement, rework, connector soldering, and hardware modifications.
Select suitable electrical connectors, terminals, cables, switches, fuses, relays, and related hardware for different applications.
Identify vendors and assist with component sourcing, technical evaluation, procurement, and alternate component selection.
Prepare and maintain electrical BOMs for prototype and production systems.
Design and plan wiring harnesses, cable routing, connector placement, and electrical packaging.
Create clean and serviceable wiring layouts suitable for robotic and mobile platforms.
Perform connector crimping, terminal insertion, cable sleeving, heat shrinking, labeling, and harness assembly.
Support integration of batteries, motor controllers, sensors, embedded controllers, actuators, communication modules, and auxiliary electronics.
Perform electrical continuity checks, voltage and current measurements, insulation checks, and system-level debugging.
Diagnose hardware failures involving connectors, wiring, PCBs, power supplies, controllers, sensors,
and battery systems.
Support prototype bring-up, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and design improvements.
Work closely with mechanical, embedded, software, and robotics teams during product development.
Participate in field trials, identify hardware issues under real operating conditions, and implement practical corrective solutions.
Maintain proper documentation of wiring diagrams, connector pinouts, component details, test results, and modifications.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with robotic systems, mobile robots, industrial automation, electric vehicles, agricultural machinery, or embedded hardware products.
Experience working with 12 V, 24 V, 36 V, or 48 V battery-powered systems.
Knowledge of BMS, DC-DC converters, motor controllers, BLDC motors, contactors, and power distribution hardware.
Familiarity with automotive or industrial-grade connectors such as XT, Anderson, Deutsch, Molex, JST, TE Connectivity, or similar connector families.
Experience creating wiring harness drawings or electrical documentation.
Basic exposure to PCB design and schematic tools is an advantage.
Experience troubleshooting CAN communication and electrical noise issues is desirable.
Familiarity with enclosure wiring, IP-rated connectors, waterproofing, cable management, and rugged hardware integration is an added advantage.
