A geotechnical engineer evaluates soil, rock, and groundwater properties to design safe foundations and earthworks for infrastructure like buildings, roads, and tunnels. They assess geological risks, conduct field and lab tests, and provide technical recommendations to ensure structural stability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Site Investigations: Plan and supervise soil borings, test pits, and rock sampling to characterize subsurface conditions.
- Laboratory Testing: Analyze soil and rock samples for strength, density, and compressibility.
- Engineering Design: Use specialized software (e.g., GeoStudio, FLAC3D) to model ground behavior and design foundations, slopes, and retaining walls.
- Risk Assessment: Identify geological hazards such as sinkholes, landslides, and soil liquefaction.
- Reporting & Collaboration: Write technical reports and work alongside civil engineers, structural teams, and construction contractors.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors or Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Geological Engineering.
- Technical Skills:
Proficiency in geotechnical modeling software and strong foundations in math, physics, and geology.
- Soft Skills: Problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication for multi-disciplinary teamwork.
- Certifications: Valid driver’s license for field travel and skilled engineering (PE) license where applicable.

3 year experience in the role of Geotechnical Engineer.
