Summary

As a PHP Backend Developer, a typical day involves designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting scalable backend and web-tier applications for OTT, digital media, and enterprise platforms. The role focuses on building high-performance APIs, integrating AWS cloud services and Java/Spring Boot microservices, resolving complex production issues, and delivering reliable software solutions using PHP 8.x, Laravel/Symfony, and modern cloud-native technologies. The candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable applications while following Agile development methodologies, DevOps best practices, and production support processes.

Roles & Responsibilities

Expected to perform independently and become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in PHP backend development and application support.

Design, develop, and enhance backend and web-tier applications using PHP 8.x based on approved technical designs and business requirements.

Maintain high code quality through static analysis, code reviews, dependency management, and secure development practices.

Consume and integrate Java/Spring Boot microservices using REST APIs, OpenAPI specifications, Swagger contracts, and gRPC services where applicable.





Develop and maintain typed client libraries and DTO mappings between PHP applications and Java service payloads.

Manage cross-platform data consistency, including time zone handling, date and time representation, decimal precision, integer handling, null management, and serialization standards.

Implement secure authentication and authorization mechanisms including OAuth2, JWT authentication, service-to-service authentication, and correlation ID propagation.

Good to Have Skills

Experience in OTT, streaming, broadcast, or digital media platforms.

Understanding of HLS, DASH, DRM technologies such as Widevine, PlayReady, and FairPlay.

Knowledge of CDN architecture, caching strategies, Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI), and entitlement management models.

Knowledge of distributed tracing and monitoring across multi-language application environments.

Familiarity with front-end technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, Vue.js, React, Blade, and Twig.

Exposure to ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, and IT Service Management processes.

Additional Information The candidate should have 3 to 4 years of relevant experience in PHP backend development and enterprise application support.

A minimum of 2 years of hands-on PHP development experience in production environments is required.

Experience working with Laravel or Symfony frameworks is mandatory.

Experience integrating PHP applications with Java/Spring Boot microservices is highly preferred.

Experience working in Agile and DevOps delivery environments is required.

Strong Analytical, Troubleshooting, And Problem-solving Skills Are Essential.

Experience in cloud-native application development and modernization projects is preferred.

Knowledge of AWS cloud technologies, API development, enterprise integration patterns, and distributed systems is desirable.

Experience supporting production environments with L3 support responsibilities is preferred.

A minimum of 15 years of full-time education is required.
