Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

A. Financial Accounting & Reporting

- Lead the overall accounting and finance function of the organization.
- Ensure accurate and timely closure of monthly, quarterly, and annual books of accounts.
- Ensure preparation of financial statements in accordance with applicable Ind AS, Companies Act requirements, and RBI regulations applicable to the organization.
- Review accounting entries, provisions, accruals, reconciliations, and schedules.
- Ensure accurate accounting of loan portfolio, interest income, interest expense, ECL/provisions, write-offs, recoveries, and other financial transactions.
- Prepare and present financial MIS and management reports to the CEO/MD and Board.

B. RBI & Regulatory Compliance

- Ensure timely and accurate submission of applicable RBI returns and regulatory statements.
- Monitor compliance with RBI regulations applicable to NBFCs/NBFC-MFIs.
- Coordinate with Compliance, Risk, Internal Audit, and other functions on regulatory requirements.
- Ensure proper maintenance of statutory records and supporting documentation.
- Track changes in RBI regulations, accounting standards, taxation, and other applicable laws and ensure implementation.

C. Treasury & Liquidity Management

- Lead treasury and cash-flow management activities.
- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly liquidity and cash-flow forecasts.
- Ensure adequate liquidity for loan disbursements, operating expenses, interest payments, and debt obligations.
- Manage relationships with banks, financial institutions, investors, and lenders.
- Monitor borrowing costs, repayment schedules, interest obligations, and maturity mismatches.
- Support negotiations for bank facilities, term loans, working capital facilities, securitisation, assignment, NCDs, and other funding arrangements as applicable.
- Maintain appropriate liquidity buffers and monitor ALM requirements in coordination with the relevant teams.

D. Fund Raising & Lender Management

- Coordinate with banks, NBFCs, DFIs, investors, and other funding partners.
- Prepare financial information, lender MIS, due-diligence documents, and financial projections.
- Support debt raising and refinancing initiatives.




- Ensure timely compliance with financial covenants and lender conditions.
- Maintain strong relationships with lenders and address their information requirements.

E. Budgeting, Planning & Financial Analysis

- Lead the annual budgeting and financial planning process.
- Prepare business plans, budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis.
- Analyze branch/region/product-wise profitability and cost efficiency.
- Provide financial insights to management for pricing, expansion, cost optimization, and business decisions.
- Develop financial models for current products, geographies, and strategic initiatives.

F. Taxation

- Oversee direct and indirect taxation matters.
- Ensure timely compliance with applicable GST, TDS, income tax, and other statutory requirements.
- Coordinate with tax consultants and advisors.
- Review tax assessments, notices, litigation, and other tax matters.
- Identify tax risks and ensure appropriate tax planning within applicable laws.

G. Audit & Internal Controls

- Coordinate statutory, internal, tax, RBI, and other audits.
- Ensure timely closure of audit observations.
- Strengthen financial controls, accounting processes, and reconciliation mechanisms.
- Ensure appropriate maker-checker controls and segregation of duties.
- Monitor financial fraud risks and escalate material issues to senior management.
- Work closely with Internal Audit, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to strengthen control frameworks.

H. Microfinance Portfolio & Financial Controls

- Ensure accurate reconciliation between the loan management system/core systems and accounting records.
- Monitor portfolio-related accounting, including:

- Loan disbursements

- Principal collections

- Interest income
- Overdue/DPD-related accounting
- Write-offs

- Recoveries

- ECL/provisioning





- Portfolio sale/assignment/securitisation
- Ensure branch and operational transactions are properly accounted for and reconciled.
- Review portfolio MIS from a financial-control perspective.

I. Cost & Expense Management

- Monitor operating expenses and cost-to-income ratios.
- Establish appropriate financial controls over procurement and expenses.
- Review branch and corporate overheads.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising operational effectiveness.
- Monitor employee-related costs, administrative expenses, technology costs, and other major expense heads.

J. Technology & Finance Transformation

- Drive automation and digitization of finance processes.
- Ensure integration between accounting systems, loan management systems, HR/payroll, collection systems, and MIS where applicable.
- Improve financial reporting through dashboards and automated MIS.
- Ensure data integrity and appropriate financial controls over system-generated transactions.

K. Board & Management Reporting

- Prepare financial presentations and reports for the Board, Audit Committee, and senior management.
- Provide analysis on profitability, liquidity, capital position, portfolio performance, borrowing, and financial risks.
- Highlight significant financial risks, deviations, and emerging issues with appropriate recommendations.
- Support management in strategic financial decision-making.

3. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Timely and accurate monthly/quarterly/year-end financial closure.
- Accuracy of financial statements and management MIS.
- Timely submission of RBI and statutory returns.
- Audit observations and timely closure of audit issues.
- Accuracy of cash-flow and liquidity forecasting.
- Maintenance of adequate liquidity levels.
- Cost of borrowing and funding efficiency.
- Compliance with lender covenants.
- Budget adherence and quality of variance analysis.
- Improvement in finance process automation and turnaround time.
- Accuracy and timeliness of tax compliance.
- Timely reconciliation of loan portfolio and financial accounts.
- Strength and effectiveness of internal financial controls
