Role & responsibilities

Position: Estimator - Modular Furniture

1. JOB PURPOSE To prepare accurate and commercially viable BOQs, quantity take-offs, rate analysis, costing and quotations for modular furniture and interior projects.

The Estimator will ensure that project quantities, material requirements, labour, hardware, accessories, manufacturing, installation, transportation and other project costs are properly calculated before submission of quotations to clients.

The position will work closely with the Sales, Design, Production, Purchase, Projects and Accounts teams to ensure accurate costing and healthy project margins.

2. KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

A. BOQ & Quantity Take-Off

1. Study architectural drawings, furniture layouts, specifications and client requirements.
2. Prepare detailed BOQ (Bill of Quantities) for modular furniture and interior works.

3. Calculate quantities of

- Plywood / MDF / HDF, Laminates / Acrylic / Veneer
- Edge bands, Hardware and fittings, Glass and aluminium
- Kitchen accessories, Wardrobe accessories
- Drawer channels and hinges, Handles and profiles
- Countertops, Electrical accessories wherever applicable
- Other furniture and interior materials.

1. Prepare accurate quantity take-offs from drawings and site measurements.
2. Identify quantity variations, missing items and scope gaps before quotation submission.

B. Rate Analysis & Costing

1. Prepare detailed item-wise rate analysis.
2. Calculate material cost based on current purchase/vendor rates.

3. Calculate

- Material cost, Hardware/accessory cost, Labour cost
- Manufacturing cost, Installation cost
- Transportation cost, Wastage, Site expenses
- Overheads, Applicable taxes
- Profit margin.

1. Analyse existing rates and recommend suitable selling rates.
2. Maintain updated rate databases for major materials, hardware and accessories.

Compare vendor quotations and identify cost-effective procurement options.

C. Quotation Preparation

1. Prepare detailed commercial quotations based on approved BOQs and drawings.
2. Ensure correct quantities, unit rates, taxes, terms and conditions.

3. Prepare quotations for

- Residential projects, Commercial projects, Office interiors
- Modular kitchens, Wardrobes, Storage units
- Workstations, Reception counters, Corporate furniture

1. Coordinate with Sales/Design teams regarding client-specific specifications and commercial requirements.
2. Revise quotations based on client negotiations and design changes.

D. Drawing & Design Coordination

1. Read and interpret furniture drawings, layouts and technical specifications.
2. Coordinate with the Design Team to clarify dimensions, materials and specifications.
3. Verify whether proposed designs are commercially and technically feasible.
4. Identify design elements that may significantly impact project cost.
5. Highlight discrepancies between drawings, BOQ and actual requirements.

E. Production & Purchase Coordination

1. Coordinate with Production regarding manufacturing feasibility and material consumption.
2. Obtain current material rates from Purchase/Vendors.
3. Verify estimated material consumption against production requirements.
4. Assist Purchase in identifying appropriate material specifications and economical alternatives.
5. Update costing whenever material prices change significantly.

Project Cost Control

1. Compare estimated cost with actual project cost.
2. Monitor material consumption and wastage against estimates.
3. Identify cost overruns and communicate them to management.
4. Support project teams in maintaining targeted project margins.
5. Prepare cost comparison reports where required.

G. MIS & Documentation

1. Maintain estimation and quotation records.
2. Maintain material rate and vendor databases.
3. Maintain project-wise costing files.
4. Prepare monthly estimation reports.
5. Maintain revision history of BOQs and quotations.
6. Ensure proper documentation and approval before final quotation submission.

Preferred candidate profile 3. JOB SPECIFICATION

Educational Qualification

- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Arch / Interior Design / Civil Engineering / Mechanical Engineering technical qualification.
- A candidate who has worked with a modular furniture manufacturer, office furniture company or turnkey interior company and independently handled BOQ Quantity Take-Off Rate Analysis Costing Quotation will be preferred.

Experience:

- 4-9 years relevant experience in estimation:
- Modular furniture, Interior fit-outs
- Furniture manufacturing, Office interiors
- Kitchen/wardrobe projects, Turnkey interior projects.

Software Skills

Mandatory:

- MS Excel Advanced/Intermediate, MS Word
- PDF/Drawing interpretation

Preferred:

- AutoCAD, SketchUp
- ERP/Estimation software
- Furniture design/CAD software.

Languages Known: Hindi, English (Mandatory) Odiya (Preferred)

Candidate willing to relocate to Bhubaneswar from nearby location can also apply
