Research Associate

Experience: 1–5 years

One Up Financial is a family office focused on long-term investing in public equities. As long-term allocators of capital, we seek to develop a deep understanding of the businesses we invest in and the industries they operate in.

We’re looking for a Research Associate to support our investment research across multiple sectors. Curiosity, original thinking and the willingness to do thorough, diligent work matter deeply to us.

The opportunity

You’ll work alongside me and our senior research team, with exposure to multiple sectors, industry conferences and company management meetings. You’ll contribute to the research that informs our investment decisions and follow businesses as their strategies and industries evolve.

What you’ll do

- Research businesses and industries to understand competitive positioning, growth opportunities, risks and long-term economics.
- Analyse company financials, with particular emphasis on balance-sheet strength, earnings quality, cash generation, working capital and capital allocation.
- Build financial models, assess valuations and communicate findings through clear, well-supported research notes.
- Conduct hands-on channel checks: identify the right people, initiate conversations, ask thoughtful questions and cross-check findings. Building relationships with customers, suppliers,



distributors, competitors and industry experts is an important part of our process.
- Track existing and prospective investments, investigating developments that strengthen or challenge our investment theses.

What we’re looking for

- 1–5 years of experience, with a strong grounding in finance and accounting and the ability to analyse and connect a company’s financial statements.
- Curiosity and original thinking: someone who asks their own questions, investigates inconsistencies and develops views supported by evidence.
- Hard work, diligence and attention to detail, with the persistence to follow unanswered questions through.
- Initiative in reaching out to people and building connections across a company’s ecosystem.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- The ability to disagree thoughtfully and change your mind when the evidence warrants it.
