About The Role The Lead Engineer – Electrical Component at GE Vernova will serve as a pivotal technical expert responsible for designing high-voltage and extra-high-voltage substations, primarily focusing on electrification solutions for grid interconnected projects. This role involves leading the engineering activities related to system design, material selection, and project estimation, ensuring that all engineering outputs align with industry standards, safety regulations, and client specifications.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including regional offices, business lines, and external vendors, to deliver optimized solutions that balance technical excellence with cost efficiency.
This position requires a proactive individual capable of managing multiple tasks, making informed decisions within defined parameters, and providing technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
The Lead
Engineer will also be instrumental in customer interactions, offering technical consultations, and ensuring the seamless integration of engineering solutions with other disciplines such as civil, automation, and MEP. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work on innovative projects that contribute to the global transition towards cleaner and more reliable energy systems.
Qualifications Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited institution. A minimum of 8 years of experience in designing EHV/HV substations is essential, with a strong understanding of power system components such as transformers, switchgear, and protection systems.
Familiarity with renewable energy integration and industry standards like IEEE and IEC is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities are crucial, along with the capacity to work collaboratively across diverse teams and clients.
Flexibility for global travel is also required to support international projects.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop HV (Primary) systems for 132 kV and above GIS/AIS substations, supporting grid interconnection projects.
- Prepare detailed engineering deliverables including single line diagrams, layout plans, section drawings, and control room schematics.
- Perform earthing, lightning protection, cable sizing, battery sizing, illumination system design, sag tension calculations, and short circuit force analysis adhering to IEEE/IEC standards.
- Select and size all project equipment, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and industry standards.
- Develop and evaluate distribution and auxiliary systems for substations and associated facilities.
- Review vendor drawings, technical proposals, and calculations to ensure quality and compliance.
- Lead LV/MV engineering activities for collector, unit, and pooling substations, coordinating with procurement teams for RFQ, BOQ estimation, and final selection of equipment.
- Coordinate with automation, civil,
and MEP teams for seamless project integration and execution.
- Manage site and office teams during project implementation, ensuring adherence to schedules, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Stay updated with global advancements in renewable energy technologies and incorporate innovative solutions into project designs.
- Ensure all designs comply with safety, environmental, and industry-specific standards, fostering a culture of safety and quality.
- Lead client interactions, providing technical expertise and ensuring customer requirements are met effectively.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
