Design Engineer Mechanical Design Job Summary

We are looking for a Design Engineer to independently support mechanical design engineering projects and collaborate closely with design, product engineering, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams.

The role involves designing and developing sheet metal components, solid models, and casting parts, preparing layouts and detailed engineering drawings, and applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to develop efficient, cost-effective, and production-ready designs.

The candidate will also be responsible for maintaining engineering documentation, including BOMs and ECNs, supporting existing production parts, and ensuring compliance with applicable design and drafting standards.

Roles &

Responsibilities

- Independently support mechanical design engineering projects from concept through project execution.
- Collaborate with design and product engineering teams to deliver project requirements effectively.
- Design and develop mechanical components, with a focus on:
- Sheet metal parts
- Solid models
- Casting components

- Create layouts, conceptual designs, sketches, 3D models, and detailed engineering drawings.
- Apply DFM/DFA principles to optimize designs for manufacturability, assembly, quality, and cost.
- Prepare and maintain accurate Bill of Materials (BOMs) and engineering documentation.
- Manage and support Engineering Change Notice (ECN) workflows.
- Provide design support for current production parts and products.
- Support engineering changes, drawing updates, and design improvements for existing products.




- Follow established design, drafting, engineering standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Interpret and work effectively from verbal and written engineering instructions, specifications, drawings, and sketches.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams and project stakeholders to ensure timely project execution.
- Support product quality and manufacturing requirements through effective engineering design.
- Ensure design deliverables meet project expectations related to quality, delivery, cost, and manufacturability.
- Independently handle design and drawing release activities with minimal supervision.

Required Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor.
- Experience with Autodesk Vault.
- Knowledge of Fourth Shift.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles.
- Good knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing processes.
- Hands-on understanding of sheet metal and casting component design.
- Knowledge of DFM and DFA methodologies.
- Good understanding of GD&T; in accordance with ASME Y14.5M.
- Experience with BOM creation, maintenance, and management.
- Experience with ECN workflows and engineering change processes.
- Understanding of HVAC and refrigeration processes.




- Knowledge of refrigeration subsystems and associated components.
- Ability to independently manage design and engineering drawing release activities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in engineering documentation.

Preferred / Desired Skills
- Experience in HVAC, refrigeration, or related product design environments.
- Experience working with Life Science Solutions products or similar applications.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and production requirements.
- Experience supporting current production parts and product improvements.
- Ability to translate engineering requirements into manufacturable mechanical designs.
- Experience working with cross-functional engineering and project teams.
- Familiarity with engineering change and product lifecycle processes.
